How much would you sell your M Coupe for?
Got an interesting call today from a dealer service. Supposedly the dealer I like to get my coupe serviced at has customer(s) looking for a car that just so happens to fit my Alpine White on black fully loaded criteria. (minus ext leather anyway).
The question they proposed was would I sell my car if the price was right. I responded "absolutely," because everything has a price right? Anyway, curious what you would sell your M Coupe for and whether or not you'd sell it at all if your dealer threw you an offer. Think the only reason I'm contemplating it is the payment every month is becoming a pain in the ass, and the mileage is starting to skyrocket. I do love driving it though, and it still gets thumbs up and comments from everybody and I would def miss that. 2007 Alpine on black Premium package Heated seats Navi 41k miles Warranty until Jan 2012 CPO until Jan 2014 I would return it back to stock and keep my LM rep wheels, diablo exhaust, h&r springs, Mstache, intravee/alpine adapter, and rpi scoop. Figure about $2500-2700 used market value in parts. With 22k miles on the clock I paid 34k CPO'd last June, 37k after shipping and taxes/tags. I forget how much I owe think it's around 26 or so. Kbb retail value 34,800 Private party 31,900 They mentioned on the phone they would offer possibly above book value of the vehicle. Let's say even at 32, they should basically refund me the 3k premium for the CPO that I paid because the next guy will pay that premium at zero cost to them. So now we're at 35 and I still have 2500 in parts to sell. So 37500. Plus it's alpine, should be throwing on an extra couple dollars just for that alone. Everybody knows alpine is the best color So do I bite at any offer over 35, keep my parts, stick 10g's in my pocket and call it a year of driving my m coupe at the cost of a little interest? I don't know what I'd replace it with, a cheaper private party m coupe, perhaps lower mileage? E46 m and have a $300 payment instead of a $600 payment plus insurance? Back to e30's and no payment? Try a cayman and the same payment? Lol Thoughts?

First, I will be shocked if they offer you anywhere near 35K for the car. Where is the profit for the dealer? If you could find out who the guy is and offer it to him privately maybe. Second, will you be happy with something else? If you are already thinking of moving on then it may be a good time to sell before you cross 50K.
I had a call recently from my servicing dealer. They asked if I was interested in trading as they "wanted to add some good late model cars to the lot". This is an old sales pitch so I wonder if they are just adding the part about actually having a buyer lined up for your car. I wouldn't be surprised if you got a trade-in value offer on your car and ended up going home pissed they wasted your time. |

I just checked around a bit online, not one alpine listed for sale. Not to mention I can't believe what some dealers and some people are asking for their car! Prices have def went up from a year ago.
With that said, thanks for the heads up. I actually won't mind the drive (even though it is an hour) because I want to see what they'd charge for am oil change on my dollar (probably worth it to just do it myself but you never know) and to show them I have a blown speaker so they can order one so I'm not without my precious little car any longer than I have to be when they fix the speaker. Retail bb is 35. Sell it as a cpo and that jumps to 38, an that's at no cost to them since it's already cpo'd. Even I'd they only make $1,000 on everything, 1- money is money, they in the black. 2 - they have a happy customer that the dealer saved the day and located what they were looking for. 3 - they have a happy customer with 35k in his pocket with a good relationship with his dealer, where am I most likely to spend it? Anyway, this is why I made the thread curious as to other's pov's. I'll see what they offer me today around 1:30.

Youre lucky our cars didnt depreciate much or else you would be upside down putting nothing or next to nothing down.
But my car i would sell in the lower 30's. I purchased mine for 34 last February and it is CPO'ed until December 2013. |

Since I don't really want to sell mine, someone would have to offer me 40K+ to even make me think about parting with it (not saying that I would)

The formula for me would be simple: I'd sell mine for the price of an Interlagos Blue one with the same miles, options, mods, and interior.
(Damn, then I'd have to start looking for a Blue Z3 coupe...) |

You might be able to use "Alpine White" as a selling point, but remember that it actually cost less from the factory. AW and IR were the only two colors that weren't metallic. You could find out how many white M coupes there are out there and use that to your advantage.
Unless things have changed, CPO = $2k markup, not $3k. I wouldn't sell unless they offer you enough money to replace your car with something similar, or you are unhappy with the M - and it doesn't sound like that's the case.

I bought a 2008 Z4MC last year for $29,900 out the door with no tax as I live in Oregon. With my financing it was $34k. It had 19800 miles on it and I now just went over 30000 miles.
I would sell mine for $32000 minus the Volks and suspension. Mine has every option as well. I would probably get into a Ferrari F430. When I buy cars I try not to go back and since I am not a Porshe fan it would either be a Gallardo or F430 at this point.

I forgot to even ask. I'll just do it myself I can't imagine it being worth it going thru any dealer.

Although I am still hoping the 2012 or 2013 Z4M hits US shores with the 400hp+, I am not counting on it. I can guarantee it will start in the low $90k area and with every option close to $100k. I would get the Gallardo and F430 used of course. I am not going to spend over $120k on a car at this point. I have seen 2007 Gallardos around here for like $110k and the F430s are in the $130k area right now. The only thing really that you have to look at is maintenance costs like you stated. Plus we have NO TAX here.

Worth about the same amount, if not more than what I bought it at
25k miles, I paid 29k to my door. Took it into the dealer to get a cupholder replaced and they wanted to buy it. I obviously said no...but they never made an official offer. He was telling me though how they said a Non-M Coupe for 34k. I'd be interesting how much markup they'd want to do on my car |
