shift knob removal

Help please. Got my new aero bumper, side skirts, and spoiler installed. AWESOME.
Now I'm trying to get the shift knob off to install my new type r. I put all I had into pulling off the stock shifter, but it didn't move. Any tips on getting it off? Put the top down and stood on seats even. Afraid of yanking to much, don't want to hurt the Z. Should it be in gear, or not? Thanks in advance.

Don't try to do a gradual pull - just a sharp tug straight up will break it loose. Doesn't matter if the car is in gear or not, just orient the shifter lever so it's pointed in the direction you are pulling. Roof down should make it easier to kneel on the seat and get over it - careful not to get too close and smash yourself in the face.

If you continue to have a problem, you can adapt an 'L' bracket for a slide hammer that will fit under the knob - but that really shouldn't be necessary.

Good luck ...

Shouldn't matter. Auto or Stick knob comes out the same way - just a sharp tug straight up as WestCDA suggested.

Sounds good. I was just doing a steady pull, so I'll try a little more aggression. Thanks.

Helps to put a pillow in between your face and the shift knob if its giving you trouble. Don't want to explain that black eye lol
