Anyone ever try the GodSpeed MonoMax?

I'm probably going H&R, but was curious if anyone ever tried the GodSpeed MonoMax coilovers? They look pretty nice for the $, but reviews are scarce even for other cars, and I can't find anything on the Z4M.

One of you guys needs to try it, so you can tell me if it is any good.

Salty, you are correct that there is not a lot of information on applications and BMW specific are non-existent.

They are $800 which is really cheap for a coilover.

If you don't find a review for your application (E85 M Roadster) you should go with a brand that is well known, you have heard of them, positive product feedback exists and know where it was built.

Don't ever skimp or cut corners on tires, brakes or suspension.

Those must be really awesome if they cost nearly $10K. I didn't think anyone had tried them, but thought I'd ask just the same. Wouldn't we all be surprised if they turned out to be a quality coilover. Those on eBay with the wrong price are for the non-M. Here is where I found them for the M:




I'm still on the path toward the H&R coilovers. They will be only for street use.

They could be decent, nice or amazing for the price ($800).

Haven't decided what I am going to put on my car yet.

Sounds like you are leaning towards H&R which is what I would do.

Doesn't Ohlins have a setup? And if so it would be heavy $.

Do your homework and pick a solution befitting of your needs. An $800 coilover setup on a ~$30K (50K MSRP) is a cheap and ugly solution likely to leave you with unforgiving/harsh ride quality and possibly other issues. In the event you upgrade down the line you'll still be out $800 + installation and have a set of no-name coilovers to give away.

Plenty of options out there besides the track junkie Ground Control/JRZ/KW - check out Status Gruppe SRS, H&R (as you mentioned), Fortune Auto, etc. A used higher end setup might stave off some of the sticker shock as well!

Thanks for the mention of the Status Gruppe. I wasn't familiar with their coilovers. It looks like they are on sale at the moment. I'm going to try to find some reviews of them.

We're on the same wavelength. Thanks for the links. I've been reading the reviews and experiences with the group buys. It sounds like a quality coilover. I've contacted Status Gruppe for some additional info and waiting for answers. Mike, the owner, sounds like a great guy.

For strictly street use, I wouldn't really need camber plates, would I? I don't plan on slamming the car or anything like that. My plan is simply to put on 19" wheels with PSS tires and drop the car an inch or so.

I had also planned to purchase the rear shock mounts made by Rogue Engineering. It looks like these come with RSMs, but would there still be an advantage to going with the Rogue set?

Your plan of action is best, it's likely Mike (the owner) has some experience with Z4M customers and can recommend a good setup. You should be fine without camber plates unless you are running overly aggressive width/offsets.

I am not as familiar with the rogue product, but my assessment is that it provides an extra level of reinforcement not present in most OEM or coiver E85/E86 setups.

I am still debating the coilovers, but have it narrowed down to either the Status Gruppe or my original choice of the H&R. Since the H&R use a progressive spring and the SGT use a linear spring, the H&R may really be the better choice for my street-only use, even though the SGT seem to be as good or better quality coilovers and have more adjustability.

There is one final factor and that is cost. The Status Gruppe are currently on sale for $1150 and I have a discount code that takes it to under $1000. They even come with adjustable end links and have a lifetime warranty.

* Machined aluminum RSMs (would replace with Rogue RSM)
