My advice, pick the body shop that specializes in high end cars (Porsches, Ferraris, Lambos, etc) and have them write the quote and I can assure you it will be totalled. Doing a car 'right' is a lot more work than more insurance companies realize.
Any possible way you could get him a reference to the actual law? I'm not calling you out, it might just help him to have the documentation for the the insurance company, etc.

And one other thing - I can only speculate that it was the driver alone with no one else involved since no one ever mentioned a car-car collision. Doesn't it seem kind of absurd in a way that after doing something stupid/lacking good judgement/other that results in the utter destruction of your car and nothing else - as if this isn't bad enough - that the Man has to throw the C&I book at you? If all that was damaged, besides the car, was foliage and dirt with no personal property damage to any one else, you'd think that the lesson would be enough. I guess law is law, and if the law states that based on circumstances A, a person can be charged with B they will do it. Just seems harsh if nothing else was destroyed but the drivers car. Maybe there is more to it.....

I think the issue is that since the insurance company is footing the bill to repair/replace said M car, they deserve to know whether this was truly an accident that was unavoidable or whether this was done by someone with driving habits that they may not want to insure going forward. Either way the insurance company incurred a loss. The only question is if and if so, how much are they going to charge to stay with the driver. Either way, the final charges will likely be the basis for their decision.

yeah, point taken. I don't know why I didn't think of that, as unfortnuate but real as it is. All in all it's a suboptimal situation at best. GL OP.

If you drive and something like this hasn't happened to you yet it's just a matter of when. Even the best driver can encounter a situation that will result in something going wrong. I see no reason to assume or conclude anything else and I'm going to what I can to support him through this.

Indeed. Learned this first hand from my experience with an elderly woman in a Lincoln.

Sometimes insurance companies guarantee the work (if they do, consider it!). I've had close friends that had their cars towed to shops "recommended on the forums" and had to battle it out after the repairs weren't completed to their satisfaction. If the insurance company guarantees it, it's much easier to argue your way into a quality job. The repair shop doesn't want to lose their go-to status with your insurance company, and the insurance company doesn't like unhappy customers or poor reviews. If you get the work done at a shop of your choosing, you're somewhat SOL if things go south...

Make sure you KNOW the shop if you're going to pull that card. It eased my mind when I visited the collision center and saw a brand new Z06 Vette and a Viper sandwiching my car while it was being taken apart.
We have a local shop that has a motto "We make it look like new". There are always hi-end cars there, BMW's, Mercedes, Audi, etc. So when my oldest son backed into my wife's S2000 a month after we got it I decided they were the shop to use because a well known/respected shop couldn't work us in for a month.

On one of the many trips back to the "Make it look like new shop" for shoddy workmanship our car was sitting next to a Z8 awaiting pickup. In total it took us 9 trips to try to get the car fixed right, they ruined the car, and I ended up going to the well known/respected shop to get parts of it fixed properly before I sold it.

So the moral here is having nice cars sitting around doesn't mean they do good work....

They totalled it. Geico was really good working with me. I recommend. They are letting me have my headers also. The Diablos were a total loss. Gotta take my toolbox to the auto body shop.

Mousitch, strange request maybe but since the vultures are flying, looking for the plug from the car that goes into the alarm. Just the six pin plug from the car wiring loom and about 3 inches of wiring if possible. Thanks in advance.

HEY!!!! Congrats on the outcome. That's good news.

re finding an 08 Sepang, you might find it tough sledding; there were only 3-4 listed on the production sheet.
