A little interior update

I needed a break from designing a new aero GT package on the car, so decided to give the interior a freshen up.

Wow looks nice Ian! Are the parts painted or did you use a laminate?

Thanks, I painted them.

The process involved ;
- wet sanding the plastic to remove the texture and any remaining mold release.
- one coat of adhesion promoter and flex agent.
- 4 coats of sandable primer
- wet sanding
- 3 coats of base color.
In this case I was using non-metallic, so gave it a light (dry) sand just to take the high points off.
If using metallic paint you would go straight to clear as you don't want to sand the metallic bits in the paint.
- followed with 6 coats of clear.
- followed by lots of wet sanding to remove all the orange peal effect.
- followed by two stages of polishing.

Thanks! It's too bad it took so long to unite with the other z4m's haha. I'll be down in july, would be awesome to do a small meet and see some of these fine cars in person at last.

Looks good! Really like the addition of color. It's a more dynamic look showing off the lines of the interior.
Well played!

Looks great, love the seats funny how after driving this for a while, it's the OE cars that will begin to look strange

Thanks Chris.
That was part of the goal, so that it would also tie in with the exterior work I'm doing.

Thanks, it really picked things up in my all black interior.

Curious why you'd go to red? To tie in with the BBK?
With your silver exterior you could do a lot of different colors and let the calipers stand alone, as they do now.

Thanks, the seats have worked out great.
I wanted to keep it somewhat OE looking and have better performing seats for the track.
The alcantara reduced sliding around dramatically .

Amazing. Simply amazing! With the rest of your interior and belts, that's about 15-20k in "Porsche custom" interior bits!

Thanks Ron, Ive had this in the back of my mind for some time now.
One thing that held me back was finding the right blue in a non-metallic.
it was a lot of fun

Great job Ian, love the accents mate..

suits those seats very well. am i noticing the speedo housing not as gloss as the rest (for sun reflection?) or is that just a anomaly in the photo?

Fine job my friend

Correct, the gauge surrounds are not gloss for reduced glare.
The OE silver are the same .

There definitely is a bit of work to take things apart.

The gauge cluster comes out easily, but dismantling takes some some to go slow with a little caution with clips etc.

The center console is pretty basic.
Start at the back and work forwards.
The back storage door is the biggest PIA to remove, but there is a DIY thread in here that helps.

It took me a couple of hours to take things apart.
