I love when I bring my M Coupe out to a car meet outing and 97% of the go-ers knows not a damn thing about it, except that it looks like a Z4 without a convertible top lol. The remaining 3% know everything about it and love that its at the car meet

The comment section of these articles and videos shows how little even supposed BMW enthusiasts know about the car. I have tried to replace mine a few times over the years with a 1M or E46 M3 but both feel more sedated and overvalued in back-to-back test drives. No longer in the replacement camp, best to add to the garage instead

My main issue with this is that I have ran out of garage space

That's always the answer!

I bought my Z4si in October and I have only seen myself once on the road and that was a newer one! They are not popular automobiles. The best thing I can tell people is that they were built in Spartanburg, South Carolina till 2008! The "Z" stands for "Zukunft" German for future.

My town on the east coast of Canada must be an anomaly because the place is literally rotten with E85 Z4s. No trouble at all to go for a spin and see several of these cars. E89s too and the occasional G29 or E85M.

If it's a coupe, the reason you don't see more is because there AREN'T more. BMW only made a few thousand coupes for the North American market. Roadsters are more common but still far fewer in number than contemporary Boxsters, Caymans, and 911s.

The Z4 3.0si is a very dynamic vehicle. Better performance than the Z3M, capable of delivering 30+ highway MPG, all day comfortable (once the runflats are thrown away!), room for a proper amount of luggage. Did I mention that the N52 is an absolute jewel of a motor.

Agreed. I see E85s and E86's all the time around Atlanta. Quite a few M's as well.

Thanks for posting the article.

I still find it amusing the hate (in the comments section) for the non-M's electric steering. I've never driven the Z4M with its hydraulic steering, but I did have an E46 330i Cabrio for a few years along with my coveted 3.0si Coupe. Sure, the 330i was not an E46 M3 to compare to the Z3M, but basically my two non-M cars having the same front end and I really could not tell much of a difference between the electric column in the Z4 vs. the hydraulic rack in the Cabrio (both on Michelin AS4's). The Z4's electric steering is not a bad setup. In fact, when I first test drove the Coupe before buying it (from CarMax) I did not realize it was electric. I didn't discover the steering was electric until I got my car home and started checking fluid levels and couldn't find the power steering reservoir. I had to go check realoem.com to verify.

And by late 2014 when I bought the Z4, I'd been driving a BMW 3-series for 32 years, so it's not like I was not familiar with 3-series steering.

I agree, the electric steering isn't all that bad. But the CSL rack in the M is on a different plane.
