18" tire question on my Z4

I just bought a great set of 189 wheels for my Z. 18x8 front and 18x8.5 rear. The recommended sizes for those rims are 225/40/18 and 255/35/18.

I am also condsidering the Z4M sizings of 225/45/18 and 255/40/18. These tires are about 1" in diameter larger, will fill the wheel well up slightly more, and offer a slightly better ride. Plus the 40 series tires will come with a treadlife warranty. I am looking at the Hankook Ventus S1 Noble 2.

Other than the speedo, any reason not to go with the meatier tires?

Thanks,

Jim

Car will sit ~1/2" higher. Given how we all obsess about 1/16" of rake angle and whatnot...But if you scrape the front of your car constantly, that 1/2" of raised height may help.

Acceleration will feel sluggish, because now your drive wheels are ~4% larger. Meaning more mass moved away from the center of the rotating mass.

Speedo will be off significantly. Although, since BMW speedos are already ~5-10% slower, this may actually be an improvement.

I wouldn't do it on looks alone. That 1/2" raised ride height will make your Z4 look like a 4X4.

Thanks for the info. Went with the stock sizing and they look great! I kept the stock diameter.
