Nitto NT05
Anyone running these or have any experience with them. Read some good stuff on the m3 forums. I want to sell and upgrade my hankook v12's to something stiffer and stickier

I think Mfanatic325 runs these and has extensive experience on the track with them. IIRC, they're fairly comparable to Star Specs, have a squarish and firm sidewall like the Star Specs. They should be a step up from the V12s.

My plans so far are csl conversion, but a FI build is not out of the question yet. Stoptechs will be on in a few weeks and hope to get tires this year as well

I have them on my M3 and they're great. Not gonna pretend to be super knowledgeable and give all sorts of technical data, but I love them. VERY grippy, not too too noisy (you can hear them though) and they have one of the nicest, most aggressive tread patterns out right now. Would definitely buy again. Good price and great performance.
FWIW, I've driven and hooked on them quite well with my buddy's 822whp HPF M3. They work, trust me. |

ahh sorry, i think the reason i counted them out was because they didnt have a 30 series sidewall for the 275 rears

Got'em. Use em. Love 'em. Great dry grip, not so great in the wet if that's a factor for you. Not too expensive. Very popular at Streets of Wilow. They are getting harder to find at my LA shops, though. Rumors of them being discontinued.
edit: Nitto USA confirms that the 265/35s are on 'indenfinite backorder' and stock is limited to whatever dealers have on hand. So basically, nothing. Looks like I'm switch to Pilot Supersports. =========== Last edited by blender; 09-20-2012 at 04:12 PM.. |

Ive had them on for two summers. I think they're a great bang for the buck. The other tires that I would buy instead of these are at least a few hundred more

I put them on my Z06 and they were great in the dry. Fairly quiet too, especially compared to the OEM run flats. I heard that they are not as good in the wet but I don't drive my cars in the rain intentionally. Plus a 325 wide tire kinda spreads the weight out a little. I plan to put them on my MCoupe when the current Nitto 555s wear out.

the michellin PSS are great, but according to Tire rack's rep that I just spoke to, they get greasy much quicker when compared to extreme performance tires.
I'm personally gonna go with ADVAN Neova AD08 tires in 265/35/R18 or Hankook Ventus R-S3 in 285/35/R18 in a few months both are relatively light, and are slightly wider than my 265/35/18 RE-11s

I've tracked with these for almost as long as I've had my M coupe, which I acquired July of 2010. They're AWESOME, especially for the price as compared to the other contenders in the same performance category. I used to run Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s on my MR2 Turbo. That car is quite the handful, and the Eagle F1 GSD3s got too oily at temp, so I upgraded to Star Specs for a long time. I thought those were amazing for non DOT/R-comps until I ran the NT05s
I run these not just because they're the cheapest good performing tire I can get in the 19" sector, but because they've served me well on public roads as well as on the track I haven't had issues with them in the rain. I drive with DSC off all the time too. Albeit, I don't particularly have a lead foot on public roads (for the sake of innocent bystanders ) I run 245/35/19 fronts on 19x8.5 +30; 275/30/19 rears on 19x10.5 +22 They last surprisingly long. My previous set for instance lasted WELL over a year, including quite a few track days (sorry, I've lost count of exactly how many ) I would LOVE to try NT01s, as Nittos really have opened my eyes. I used to see them as a lower-tier brand until I really tried them. It's too bad they don't make a lot of super good tires in 19" size without breaking the bank. edit: I've also tracked in the rain with General Exclaim UHPs (same as Hankook V12 Evos pretty much), and they're surprisingly good for all-seasons; even in the dry too! I had the V12 Evos on a spare set of wheels for the old MR2 before I sold it. Never got to track on the V12s, but like I said, they're the same as the Exclaim UHPs. And in fact, I would probably rate the UHPs higher, since they're cheaper AND have higher treadwear rating lol better bang for the buck! V12s were more comfy than the UHPs though. TLDR? Here's a sparknotes version: OEM Contis (for shits and giggles lol) < Hankook V12 Evo < General Exclaim UHP < Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 < Michelin Pilot Sport 2 < Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec < Nitto NT05 These are the only tires I'm willing to comment on and rank, as those are the only ones I've personally run on my cars and have experience with. All others are just heresay, and I would rather not include them, as they may not do other tires justice. Last edited by mfanatic325; 09-24-2012 at 02:50 AM.. |

Not to go too far off topic, but several of my track buddies started on Hoosiers at the beginning of the track season. Halfway through the season this year, all of them have sold their Hoosiers and now run NT01's on the track. They all say they have more grip, last longer and are way cheaper...
