They seem to pop up on ebay every once in a while. If not then your should try a seat reseller. I came across a guy at a swap meet one year he has a bunch - most likely gets them from salvage yards.

Starting bid of $1k??? I can see the laws of supply and demand are working and the supply guys think they have the upper hand.

Remember these are the same guys who had a set of M seats in brown. Started on Ebay at about $1K and over the course of several months worked their way down to $700 or so. Same thing will likely happen here...

Those weren't in a very good shape and the color was also not the most desirable. I think they dropped lower than $700 too.

Shipping to Japan will be expensive.

As for price, buyers always want to pay less than something is worth. Try buying those seats new from BMW at $5000 each. You can't, thay are out of production. One tenth of the new cost seems pretty reasonable to me.

$1k for two out of production, full leather, heated sport seats is a VERY reasonable price.

What something is worth has little to do with what it cost and everything to do with what people will pay. If they're sitting idle with no bids at $1K on a high traffic site like Ebay I'd say that pretty well implies they're not worth $1K.

+1
The price of an item in a free market is what people are willing to pay for it and has nothing to do with anything else.

Ebay is for lowballers. Both buyers and sellers are to be viewed with suspicion. Ebay sets prices the way that Mannheim establishes prices for cars - the rock bottom price for the least desirable item with the most questionable history. I'm not sure I would buy those seats without a more careful inspection, however. Seats salvaged from a wrecked car may have damage that is not immediately obvious - torn leather, bent frames, broken motors, shorted wires etc. Why not consider some nice custom Sparcos or Recaros instead?

I don't know where you got that impression of ebay but you might want to actually buy and sell a few items and see how it works. Perhaps that will change your opinion.

They are excellent seats, but the main reason is they work in many Honda products and are one of the best OEM Honda seats so are extremely desirable for people upgrading their cars. S2000 seat theft is rampant. Seats locks are sold by one of the S2ki members for just that reason. Many of the seats seen on Ebay/CL are stolen. To buy new S2000 seats will run around $8K as they have to bought in pieces from what I understand.

Have you sat in the seats yet? You should probably sit in them first before you spend so much money on them. They're really skinny, my upper body doesn't fit between the bolsters (190 lbs, 5% body fat)
