Excellent knob instead of short shifter

Performance in your hand with this knob. 1 Inch shorter, a pound heavier and fit perfect in every way. Money well spent. And when you order you talk to the man himself. Very fast delivery.
I was looking for performance in shifting and I got that and more.
I left mine plain in that I don't have to look to see what gear I need and this makes it hard for other to drive the car

That has to be hot in the summer after the car has been parked with the top down.

Post #30 is the current location of the button, and after using awhile, it is a more user friendly location.?????

In looking again at the photos, I would think the logical place for the start button would be where the sport button resides. Then the sport button could move to the passenger airbag indicator spot and the airbag indicator to the dash next to the ventilation controls. Wow, that is a lot of work...

After hearing all the hypes, I bought the Whalen knob for my '06 Z4MR 2 months before I even took delivery of the car. Tried it for a month. Indeed very nice. And then I tried the ZHP short shift knob after reading about it on the M3 forums. Actually I tried my old spare Z4 SMG knob after I found out that it was exactly the same as the ZHP knob only with a different shift pattern plate. I went out and bought the ZHP with 6-sp pattern as soon as I could.

That was 2.5 years ago, and to this day I haven't bothered taking out the Whalen knob from my storage room. The ZHP knob just feels a lot nicer and shifting feels much more direct.

+1 on the ZHP knob. I have this on both my E39 and Z4 coupe and I love the feel it provides. On the E39, this along with the UUC short shifter and DSSR turn what was a "rowing" exercise into a very precise move. They both make quite an improvement.
