Status Gruppe S54 Stainless Steel header

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
USD 690.00

Item Interest
Just wanted to mention the Status Gruppe header group buy happening over at the m3forum. I'm thinking of jumping in and grabbing a set. Seems like a decent deal @ $710 shipped and if you want a TTFS tune (Tuning Tech by Frank Smith) add an extra $700.

Correction tune for the Z4M is $700, the $500 tune was specifically for the E46 m3.

Edit
$690 price met with 15 members!

Do you know if those fit or what modification does those headers need with stock the s-pipe and all the rest?

Wow Cyclops, thank you for posting this! I've been considering get a set of headers for my car plus a tune, and this looks like a fantastic option.

I'm assuming with the tune it will remove the CEL correct if you're no longer running cats? I've already replaced my S-pipe with a Rogue unit, so I'd be catless by going with these headers.

As well, any opinions on how a straight pipe M sounds? Right now I have the RE S-pipe, X-pipe, and Stromung exhaust and the car sounds absolutely perfect to me. I get a lot of great pops on deceleration too, and it's still not all that loud really. My major concern is RASP. Does removing the stock headers/cats bring the horrible rasp back which the E46 M3 is known for?

I might go for this if the rasp doesn't make an appearance! ;D

It'll be absolutely more raspy, but no idea how bad. I guess it depends on how loud the Stromung is.

Not the same platform but on my E92 M3, I had test pipes + pretty damn close to muffler delete = raspy

Test pipes + secondary cat delete + a tamer Eisenmann muffler = perfection.

I also don't want too much rasp like the E46.

Anyone else interested? Would be great to get this under $700 shipped.

Thanks! Ahh, kind of what I feared. I'll have to do some more research on this, I simply cannot have my car sounding like an E46 M3 or my old Z3 M Coupe. ;D

Agreed

It's so hard to get the exhaust setup just right IMO. I went through 5 different iterations before I found the sweet spot, and that's one of the best sounding engines BMW has ever made. I'm far more scared of getting it wrong with the S54! You can only get so much from listening to a Youtube video.

That's probably why I'll start with headers and move my way towards the back of the car

My rule is always maintenance before mods, but this is super tempting. Everyone else jump in so we can bring the price down!

Check this 2012 BMW Z4 Exhaust Fest video out at 2:00, 6:13, 8:25 mins. Probably the closest to what your going to get.

Thanks a lot for that! Hmmmm, the sounds made at those time stamps aren't very inspiring. I can hear the old rocks in the exhaust so to speak.

Still a great deal for headers/tune, I'll have to think about it. Thanks for bringing this GB to our attention of course!

Under hard acceleration, I only liked a handful of them... A lot of them sounds like either rocks in the cans, or kicking a bees nest

Would be interesting to hear aftermarket headers paired with the Remus cans though.

Oh well, at least I made it 1 month of ownership before modding my Z

P.S. If I'm reading correctly, they're at 25 sets being made, which would bring total to $690 shipped. Not bad at all

I think that the SuperSprint sounds the best IMO.

They are making 25 sets but have not sold 25. Group buy pricing for $690 will only happen if 15+ people buy in. Currently there is only 6 people committed by my count so $720, if 4x Zpost guys jump in that will put it at 10 people for $710. I would be nice to get 15+ people to pick these up for $690 but I don't think it will happen.

You could ask about the rasp eliminator pipe they have for $300 and see if it will fit the Z4 or if they can make you one to fit.

Ah, I see it now. Still a pretty good deal.

Would you personally have them jet hot coated? It'll make the headers close to $1k shipped, but I've heard that's a no brainer option to get.

I can get them ceramic coated cheaper locally so personally I will not. I was thinking of wrapping them with a colored Blue header tape to give it some bling. I haven't put my deposit down yet, but I think I'll pull the trigger with tune. The tune has me on the fence as I know its a good deal but by the time you add everything up with exchange rate, duties etc I'm looking at just below $1800 Canadian which kind of hurts the wallet.

Were you planning to ship it direct to your house, or across the border and pick up? I was planning on getting in on the next group buy, and duty and/or brokerage were a concern. I was looking at the headers + catted section 1.

Yea that's what stopped me. Had to take a step back and reconsider. As much as I want the headers, done properly with coating, we're looking at $1400 USD. Still not that horrible considering I paid that for simple test pipe and tune for my E92, but I should really go through the car first before I start modding.

You guys are a bad influence

I reached out to SG and they said the could ship USPS or UPS across the border. So I don't know if I should play it safe and just have them mailed to Lewiston and pick them up.

Speaking of ceramic coating Adam, do you use the guys in Erin?
Had my non M header done 3 years ago still looks like new. They coat inside and out. Supposedly reduces under hood temps and promotes gas flow velocity.

As far as wrapping the header there are differing opinions on the affect of trapping moisture between the wrap and the header even though the header is SS.

Also there is a mailbox service in Niagara Falls NY I use for parts shipping from the U.S.
