Strange AutoTrader Ad From a Dealership......Anyone Know Anything? Thoughts?

This dealership had this car listed for a while, then it was gone, I assumed it had sold, but now it's back up and the vehicle description starts with the following, "After a thorough investigation, our dealership stands by the current odometer reading. Our Top Quality service department could not find any defects in this vehicle".

Any thoughts? Does anyone know the story on this car?

Finally, is there a way to disconnect the odometer on these cars? I know on old Porsche 944's (older car of course) all you had to do was disconnect one wire and the odometer would not register any miles. People did this, then reconnected it when they were ready to sell. I learned that while shopping for one.

Here's the ad:

They indicate they've pulled the Carfax. Ask them to send it to you.

Odd that they'd "open" their sales pitch with that statement though.
The lady doth protest too much methinks?

The better question is why? The car has 44K on the clock not 4K. Who would be suspicious of a 44k 2006 car?

I think they're implying unbelievably low mileage. So low you'll think its wrong, but it's not! Their experts verified its not an error, it really is that low.

Funny thing is, I have a 2006 and just crossed 50k this month. It seems Maxwell Ford isn't familiar with the concept of a seasonal car.
I'll assume then that Ford owners only buy daily drivers. That means at the insurance industry standard 10-15k per year, most 2006 Fords would be pushing 120k by now.

^^^ this.

I found a 2007 Z4MC with only 21K. In contrast my 2005 Prius had ~150K on the clock. The dealer is just trying to drum up interest on a reasonably low milage car.

Yep, it's Texas, we drive cars all year. The winter is the best time for convertibles down here.

My 2006 Z4 3.0i has 29,561 miles on it....it is a daily driver from April through to October. There are some very low mileage cars around...this ///M just happens to be one I suspect. I am assuming they just do not know how to advertise a low mileage car.

I would have used "This unbelievable low mileage car can now be yours" ... but they used their line of defending themselves first an foremost. Silly Dealers.

Garage List
I bought my '06 Z4 M Roadster two years ago with 31,810 miles on it, it now has almost 44,000 miles on it. Many of those miles were due to a road trip last August from San Diego to Monterey, most on back roads.

The previous owner (Ron888) had a motorcycle that he rode more than he drove this car. I have a company car and mostly just drive my M on weekends. I changed the oil on 8/4, exactly a year since my last oil change, and only put 4,220 miles on it this past year. In San Diego, not a "seasonal" car, just one that doesn't get driven nearly as much as I'd like. My wife has decided recently that she needs to drive it to work at least one day a week because her '11 335is Coupe now has more miles than my car!

But the ad clearly indicates 44K - not 4K.
While 44K is perhaps low for a 2006 model (although my 1992 E31 850i has 42K), it seems to me neither unbelievable nor requiring of defense.

You can click on the CarFax thing that pops up on the first picture. If you look a little down the report, it lists mileage in increments several times throughout the vehicle's life. Nothing looks too out of place to me. This isn't an endorsement, always do your research. Just stating as others have, dealer may be trying to drum up interest due to the mileage, albeit in a really odd way.

44k is naerly unbelievably low mailage for most 8 year old cars. Thats just over 5k a year. Considering an average daily driver does that in 3 or 4 months. Any car doing just 400 or 500 miles a month is a virtual Creampuff.

4k in 8 years? That would just be a waste of a good sports car.

You guys are right, but the suspicious thing is this dealership had the car advertised on AutoTrader for a few months, then took it off for about two months and now has it listed again. That's the part that makes me suspicious. Of course I could just call them, but speculating is so much more fun.

Higher miles than most M6s but not ridiculous. I would've guessed at least 6-7k higher price.

Always be suspicious of a car that's claimed to "turns people heard".
