You will get many opinions on tires. For wheels, most will agree that the Apex ARC-8's are the way to go. They are as light and cary the same strength rating as wheels that are three times the cost. I beleive there is a group buy going on in the classified section right now.
For tires, are you looking for mixed street/track use or track dedicated?

That said, I think you would be happy with either, so I would shop for best price and size.

Hoosier A6 mounted on BBS Motorsports magnesium wheels. 14lbs ea at 18" x 9". You'll need to convert the hub to accept single nut fastener. Size of the wheel and tire will depend heavily on testing, you will want to run the NARROWEST possible tire that you can't break the grip from for the duration of the stint that will leave you in to 160-200 degrees F range where the Hoosiers work best in.

All in all though, they're both the same bang for the buck. I wouldn't get RE-11's just because they're pretty pricey haha |

Best track setup is an F1 car...but as always, budget dictates most decisions. So you want to go with a street tire, but haven't answered if it will be dedicated for the track, or also driven on the street. There are tires that are excellent in the dry, R-S3s, Ecsta XS, which do poorly in the rain you will likely encounter on the street. For a tire that will be driven in both, RE11 has the best reputation in both dry and wet situations, as well as being very streetable (road noise, comfort, etc) whereas the Star Spec is only ok in the wet, and much louder. While many haven't run into this problem, it has a tendency to get out of round and de-laminate, which is something to consider since you plan on using it for the track and it will thus see heat cycles. AD08 is another good tire to consider. But again, budget dictates - is this a hybrid set up or dedicated? Another thing to consider, if dedicated, is going to a 17" track setup for cost reasons. |

Ha! Although, F1 cars are limited by certain rules (eg: open wheels). The best track setup would probably be something along the lines of that make believe Red bull car in Gran Turismo 5---but that's neither here nor there.
