Tuner Power Pulley??

Has anyone used this? Seems like a cheap upgrade..just not sure about the consequences about stealing power from other components..

I have had these on my car for the past 3 years with 0 problems. I'm not certain about the power gain, as you would be hard pressed to fin many people with pre and post pulley dynos but in theory it makes sense.

You didn't notice any gains? Did you install this yourself?

Probably 15 whp gain. Definitely noticeable at 7000 rpm's. The cheapest power gain for the money. The next being diff regearing.

I'm not gonna lie and say that I noticed huge gains, as this was put in a few years ago, and my memory has gone the way of the dodo bird.

As I live in Boston, I just drove up to Turner and had them put the part in. At the time I didn't have the DIY courage I appear to now

Was there a thread on this? I searched but my return gives me threads on diffs and their issues that people have had, not specifically anything on the bearing.

I think this upgrade will occur mid summer for me (belt/power pulley).

No thread for z4m's that I know of. There haven't been too many mods done to the z4's due it it being a newer expensive car with very few people making stuff. You could search threads for m3's via google for actual data.

Excuse the double post but I figured I'd try to get some testaments out of what word a shop owner described to me:

They mentioned that at traffic speeds (stop/go) or in hot weather you would notice overheating issues with an upgrade such as this. It is suggested that one would also upgrade the waterpump or other cooling components to compensate for this, but may not be necessary.

Has anyone experienced overheating with this modification?

Being from Central Texas and using the M Coupe as a DD, seems a little risky to do this mod.

I don't know about that. I had pullies on the waterpump and power steering in my 330ci and I did not experience any over heating issues. I could barely notice that the steering was a bit heavier that everyone said would be a result of doing the mod.

Overall the RPM's climbed a little faster above 4K rpm and I think it felt a little faster but I never dyno tested it. I've considered doing it to the M but will watch for sales to really spur me on.

I did this upgrade myself. The PDF guide they provide have you doing it from the top of the engine bay, but I did it from the bottom and it was super easy.

I have done two "spirited" driving trips from Seattle, WA to Napa, CA with the pullies with no problems.

Here are two links that I read before I did the work.

I've had similar pulleys on my E46 323Ci and have a bunch of friends who has pulleys on their BMWs as well. The ONLY drawback we ran into was the belts were hard to source and are not widely available, so when a set of belt gets frayed or are in need of replacement, it could mean the car's sidelined for weeks while you hunt for the custom sized/ribbed belts rather than just walking into a BMW dealership and picking up a replacement.

Not a huge deal, but we also seem to experience higher failure rate on the belts and/or associated components like the belt pre-tensioner, although the pre-tensioner seems to be a common failure part on the M52/M54 engines anyway.

As for under driving the water pump/power steering pump, I've never had overheating issues while driving the E46 back and forth from Vegas during the summer month and while on track, so I wouldn't worry TOO much about it. The only thing I will add, is if your engine is say, being force fed air, and tend to run hot? Yeah, on the S54...Probably not the best of idea to under drive the water pump. Especially since an upgraded pump like the Stewart isn't available for the S54.

Overheat

I have about 25 track days on the car since the pulleys went on with zero overheating problems.

I've had the Turner pulleys on my car in Austin for several years, daily driven. I haven't had any issues with overheating. I have had issues with loud belts on startup though. And a few times the belt has jumped over a few ribs on the crank pulley. I switched to a slightly shorter belt (belts are easy to find, contrary to one of the concerns above). It's starting to make noise again though, so I need to check and see if the belt needs replaced or maybe my tensioner.

What's the largest gains? I had an 01 Mustang Cobra that I installed underdrive pulleys on - claimed only 5-8 RWHP on the 4.6L 32V V8. Is there really that much of a difference here on the Z?

Thank you for this, I think that it will be the end of this month's upgrade (that's how I've been budgeting myself)

I installed these as well, no issues about 1 1/2 years old. Power gain? maybe a small one...
