no-ones saying your clueless jad..... some of things you said was off tho, lets not loose track of what is imo a great thread!!! im pretty sure use the stock m3 fuel pump on the stage 1 turbo kits.... the ess kit doesn't have a breather also, in fact the s54 has a built in oil separator in the cam cover, its just not that effective on boosted applications. i love your input and enthusiasm!!

i added it after i realised the s54 breathes heavily on boost, my motor only has 11k miles and it had a fair amount of oil vapour on the s/c imprellar, also the intake was covered in the sticky residue....

i decided to import the best CC possible, the search turned up the ultimate Catch can which i ordered in crackle black, i then used the spare s/c containing rib which came from clocking the unit to make a bracket combined with the cans hardware it worked like it was part of the kit... i used kevlar reinforced pipework and swapped out the ess pipework to the upgraded fibre hoses.

The catch can is fantastic and traps every singe piece of vapour and general shit... im pleased to see its not filling up but theirs a decent amount in their thats not being eaten by my motor. it can be abit smelly after a hard run as its a vented unit, but i love that hot oil smell.... ontop of that it looks the shiznizz!!
as you know jad, burning that vapour lowers the octane level and increases chances of Det.... im very pleased its in place.

imo these FI s54s really need a CC in place, when you boost yours, be sure to run one!!

Why aren't there any roots or twinscrew sets developed for the z4m?
A lot of you guys fancy the g-power for its apparent low rev torque, in which case a volumetric compressor / positive displacement compressor is the way to go. Or turbo ($).
Maybe too little space under the hood for a positive displacement system?

I'd hate a twin screw / roots type unit on this motor.... Plus how would it work with the 6 TBs???? I guess any things possible!!!

Best way probably would be to replace it with a throttle body that is mounted in front of the sc so the sc pumps the air directly into the cilinders (so a conventional setup)

Don't know if that's very difficult; the s54 also uses a (single) TB actuator etc.

I hope you're not thinking of me as some kind of greenish breathing human.
like the precious stone jade :P

I have outstanding news, I sealed the deal on an ESS VT2-500 for the following reason:
1- Information available on this kit
2- Upgradability (not a word but you get where i'm gettin @)
3- Customer feedback (bee, roffle, iphone, fr8tdog, e46 M3 guys, ...)
4- Not wanting to do any bodywork to support insane torque, so the torque levels in VT2-500 is more than enough for me at the end of the day.

My other alternative in case something happens is Gpower with T1-521 and appropriate pulley like ironZ4M setup.

I'd get the g_power just to be different !!! When you planning on ordering???

Thanks Roffle, what i need now is all your installation notes and remarks.
My kit is unwarrantied, so i will be super extra careful. If you can take 10 mins to remember what kind of issues you guys run into or maybe some of the things you paid attention to while installing the kit and mounting the FMIC or anything, please just write things down as much as you can and send me the list and this could prevent me headache, using resources and avoiding catastrophies.

Really excited in joining the Z4M FI club I will do as you guys have done, and document everything and take tons of pics, dynos, every eye candy possible.

make sure you order new orings for the new oil cooler, otherwise this will leak, trust me i found out the hardway!!
The intercooler pipeworks needs the undertray to be slightly modded to fit it all in, keep the car slightly higher if you have adjustable suspension as the pipes are very light and very soft.
Right, now take a look at my pics, look at the top radiator hose ;-) can you see that thick plastic band on the motor side??? the p/s tank bracket has a sharp edge so i use this to protect the hose under extreme expansion, i also modded the p/s tank bracket to allow it to fit closer to the oil filter, other it WILL foul the hood under hard acceleration.
Make a sock for the p/s tank and lower the level to medium mark, otherwise it sprays all over the engine during extreme cornering.
Change the supplied Clamps, they suck.
Clock the blower to get a better outlet angle, (not many do this as it means taking the s/c apart!) worth the time and effort imo!!
I used some spiral plastic to protect the braided hose under the s/c and my inner engine bay paintwork.
Zip tie all vacumn lines.
Dont forget on breakin to occasionly tap the redline, its needs to adapt uptop too right????
Run AFR gauge
When lifting the motor take care at this point....
When fitting the pulley to the blower do NOT over tighten otherwise you'll damage the internal seal and the blower will splat its guts all over the engine bay... as me how i know?? lol
run a catch can plllleeeeaaassseee!!!!
really take your time to postion the TB clamps otherwise they foul movement and cause a world of shit.
The boost pipes may need modding to get a perfect fit, the intercooler, JUST and i mean JUST fits behind the bumper, slightly off, and the bumper wont fit back on.
The s/c intake has to be the perfect location, just hugging the suspension tower leaving around a 1-2mm gap, this means it wont rub but more importnatly it wont foul the hood under hard driving!!
Supercharger sounds like shit for a while and you'll think its broken.
i changed the pipework for kevlar reinforced fibred stuff.
i find the car runs cooler in general so warm her up alittle longer.
The car SHOULD make 7psi @7900rpm, dont be alarmed if it makes slightly more, some make alittle more, some make less. mine makes 7psi @ 7000rpm?? i never new why?
Afrs should be 11.3-4ish @ WOT at high revs.
You can ask for an agressive vanos tune - i have this but its alittle choppy at low rev, High load situations but gives razor throttle response!!
get new brakes!!!! lol
The 550 upgrade is pretty cheap from here on :-) you should be able to get it depending on your fuel, ESS wont sell this in the usa.

so when you say you have no warranty??? what happens if the blower is faulty through no fault of your own???? i LOVE the ess kit, its awesome, i LOVE ess, they are awesome BUT... i simply could not have had this kit without warranty... ive used that warranty a few times BTW.
Plus the car took around 3-4 months of constant tweaking, conversations to ESS, fault lights, problems before it was at the point where i drive and forget about it..... Please be very careful.
im one of the older ESS owners now so my kit has lost its warranty i think now?? But at the start, this was invaluable. When my blower spat its guts out!!! Do you know how much a new vortech v3 costs??? yeahhhh dont look!!

jad, i like you, weve had lots of contact of the years, (thanks for the hardtop :-) i LOVe IT!!!!!!! perfect condition, defo one of my best purchases EVER) but imo consider a warrantied option.... why dont you call me????? i sent you my number>>?? is your english good???
If i was i YOUR position with no warranty from you new kit.... it would ahve to be the g-power, at least you'll get warranty and its a very solid option. THINK about it.

i think ESS should reconsider the warranty on this kit, IMO, ok at least warranty the parts but not any defects from install issues.....
Ess i know you watching so..... consider it???

Congrats on your purchase!

Check and see if Vortech offers a warranty of their own for the V3.

What are the chances of blowing any of the pipes or having a faulty intercooler or intake manifold wrong?

my mechanic has installed a thousand superchargers on e46 M3, i will be anal and very involved in the installations. I will also take all your notes and try to apply them on my installation.

WOW Bee, those notes are precious. I will take pics and draw circles on them for the installation and post a large ass thread about this.

I will show all your notes to my mechanic. Be sure to remember everything you have done to your car when installing as this is pure gold for me. if you have the time to take pics of the engine bay and circle around the notes that you put here, it would be insane man. I am not as technically inclined as you are.

Man am I excited about this project.

@bee:
1- What happens if i don't clock the supercharger?
2- Did the inter cooler pipes fit easily? did you have to modify any of them? where did you position them compared to the power steering hose?

pics pics pics
