Z4 Non-M Mod List

I just joined this site and I thought it lacked a thread for non-M parts. Gee, the list of mods on my non-M coupe is almost completely orthogonal to the OP's:

Gintani/OE Tune
H&R Sway bars
Koni Yellow Shocks
CDV delete

Got to use these, plus front camber plates and new suspension at Hallett this last weekend. Turn in is now very "right now" without much in the way of a wait for the car to take a set. There's also more feed back through the wheel from the road surface.

http://www.treehouseracing.com/index...mart&Itemid=31

One of my FCABs was shedding a piece of rubber, and bought these on Bimmerworlds recommendation-- the the damage to the stock unit turned out to be cosmetic only.

The Pyspeed front bumper is for M only.

Other intake option include Gruppe M.

Other exhausts include Remus and Bastuck.

TC Kline and Ground-Control both offer suspension (springs, shocks, coilovers, camber plates).

Vorshlag also offers an adjustable camber plate. Rogue Engineering and Dinan offer fixed.

Dinan offers a variety of parts for the pre-facelift z4.

Ultimate Pedals is another option for pedals.

AA and ESS offer tunes for the n52.

I checked out your garage. Lotsa nice modifications done on your coupe! How do you like your Quaife LSD? Did you install it yourself?

How much did you pay to have it installed? I'm saving up cash for mods this spring! So far on my list are the simple things. Afe CAI, RPI Scoop, springs (eibach or H&R. Gotta see what people think first) and new rims + tires. Eventually the LSD is something I want to get.

Honestly the LSD should be the FIRST thing on your list from a performance standpoint. Looking back, I wish I spent the few extra hundred and changed to a 3.64 or 3.73. If you're going just for sound/looks, I can see how intake and springs are first on your list but from a performance standpoint they are not that beneficial over stock imo.

The Quaife or any diff needs to be professional installed by a diff specialty shop since backlash and other adjustments are extremely difficult without the proper hardware. Once you have the diff sent to you, dropping in the pumpkin isn't too difficult and any shop could do that for you in about 2-3hrs labor max.

Yeah, I'm going about it backwards. I want to change up the sound a bit on my car but I don't think I'm going to spend $$$ on new exhaust so that's where the intake comes in. As for the springs, just going for the better look when I get my new rims and tires. How much quicker is your car in the quarter mile?

Don't know, never took the car to the strip (honestly don't see a point).

I'd skip the intake all together and just remove the foam piece from the sound generator. It's 5 minutes and FREE. =)

Eh, one of the only times I may disagree with you on that one. No benefit to it (theoretically should be I suppose) but reason I'm against is b/c I could've swore I read about a TIS regarding how if a tech finds the charcol filter removed, they would deny whatever (engine related) warranty work they may be working on.

this is true...

i guess i was operating under the impression that if one were to replace the stock airbox with a CAI and put in an RPI scoop, might as well just remove the carbon filter and save some $$$.

i should have been more clear.

but... yes. if you do anything at all to your intake and BMW discovers this, they may pin failures on the vehicle owner's modifications rather than put the repairs to warranty.

I just want to add while I'm aware in general, any "modification" is grounds for a tech to avoid certain work, I recall reading an actual TIS specific to the charcoal filter removal.

Found the thread:
http://bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157656

Granted it's for the S54 but I'd imagine same issues apply.

really, i'm mostly interested in the fuel economy portion of this. it seems counterintuitive that increasing air flow would hurt fuel economy.

haha! more info please!

I guess I'd better read into this more before getting the intake...

@v3.0si
Why the Eibach Pro Kit over the H&R Springs? Just wondering myself before I get my springs this spring.

reasons:

1) my driveway and several roads i cross daily already threaten the front cover. i can alter my route to and from work, but the driveway is unavoidable. so... eibachs it is.

2) the drop on the eibachs for cars w/ ZSP is 15mm up front and 8mm in rear. since my z is running 18's, these measurements were critical to get the fender gap nice and symetrical. basically, i wanted a drop that puts the center of the wheel as close to the center of fender arc as possible. imo, the H&R's with 18's make the wheels look very small, so are much better suited to 19's. so... eibachs it is.

3) many reports on this forum, and others like it, claim that the severe drop of the H&R's shortens the life of the oem shocks. my z only has 24k mi on it, and at this point, i'm not in the mood to throw $$$ on shocks/coilovers for my daily driver that i'm not tracking. hopefully, someday i'll get to track her, but in the near future it's not going to happen. so... eibachs it is.

4) the specs of the front wheels, coupled with the plan to go to a 235/40 tread, would mean a pretty serious neg camber angle in front. i'm looking to keep these tires on for more than 10k mi, and -2* camber isn't conducive to achieving that goal. so... eibachs it is.

all in all, for my specific situation, the H&R's never stood a chance against the eibach. but there are some super sexy cars here on zpost lowered on the H&R's, and you should certainly do your own comparison to make sure they are, or aren't, the springs for you.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! Sounds like I will get the Eibach springs also. I'm going with 18" rims with 235 in the front and 265 in the rear and the Eibachs sound like the perfect match.

I just checked out the ESS site. I didn't know there was even an ESS tune for the 3.0si. Pretty much everything I've read say that the 3.0si is pretty much maxed out as to what you can get out of it. Anyone use ESS tuning for the 3.0si???

Bumping this..

I'd also like to know more about the ESS for the 3.0si and is it also good for an automatic transmission? Also how hard of a install would it be for the AFE Cold Air Intake? Is it a easy DIY or should a good shop do it.

A rough estimate of the Intake install too if possible. Thanks
