He has a DIY K&N Intake so the scoop wouldn't be applicable, I'm trying to find a time to make the 1.5 hr trip but with all this rain I think its gonna have to be next weekend.

If there is a non-m guy that is able to make it on a weekday, that would be much easier for me and we would be able to get the answer much sooner. The non-M E60 guys are buggin for a scoop also so everything is up for grabs at this time. Either I make more Z4 ones first or I have to start on the development of the non M e60.
Testing for the non-m Z4 will be easy. You purchase a scoop, I dyno. No hp gain, you get refund for the scoop. Expect to be here atleast 2 hours. |

Non-M scoop fitment and Dyno Report
So I made the trip to RPI yesterday to get the much anticipated Z4 airscoop installed on my 3.0i.
A couple problems developed: The baseline Dyno was unsuccessful because the automatic tranny on my Z wouldn't stay in a single gear for the entire Dyno run. The transmission would automatically downshift during the test which resulted in inaccurate results. Eloy agreed to go ahead and install the scoop and let me return it if it turns out later that the hp gains are insignificant. Big bummer! Turns out the scoop that was developed for the Z4M does not fit the same on the standard Z4. There is an interference with the diagonal brace behind the grill that wont allow the scoop to fit properly. (Holes dont line up and the position of the scoop sits off angle because the diagonal brace was about an inch more forward on my vehicle than on the Z4M). Eloy tried his best to tweak the mounting brackets and the scoop to get it to fit properly--- but ultimately, it was obvious the airscoop will not fit the non Z4M. Not sure if it makes a difference but I have the M bumper conversion on my 3.0i and I have an eary 2003 model. Though I'm pretty certain that the clearances and the build should be the same for the standard bumpers and later models. I asked if Eloy if he would consider developing a new scoop for the non-M, but he said he would need to have the car for a few days to develop a new one. If there is enough of an interest and a willing donor it may still happen. But for now it looks like we (non M owners) are out of luck. The day wasn't a total bust because I had the skid plates installed on my M bumper. Fit is right on and the plates work great! I can attest to that because it didn't take but 20 minutes after I left the shop, I scrapped the hell out of the bottom of my bumper while driving out of the driveway of a burrito stand. Love those burritos/ hate the combination of steep driveways and the very low front Z4 bumpers. However, the sound of the metal skid plates scraping concrete was a much better sound than painted plastic. |

Well if Eloy won't make one for the non-M's then that opens the door wide for Teammojo:

No one said Eloy wasn't willing to make one, if you read mandizzle's post he said

Guys note that the scoops RPI made for the Mcoupe took alot of time and effort...testing for proper airflow, dyno testing and doing this back and forth was very time consuming and expensive...it wouldn't be fair if other guys copy RPI's air scoops... i highly suggest contacting Eloy and giving him a Z4 non M to work on for a few days (just like what i did) so he can properly test the scoop, also on the Z4 M scoops it took alot of prototype scoops just to finish one that will deliver...JMHO

No one is saying it didn't take a lot of time and effort. Personally I wouldn't consider Teammojo's a "copy" at all. Just by looking at the quality, angle, material, etc. its no where up to par with the RPI scoop. I dont consider a home made scoop to be anywhere near encroaching on RPI's territory. If I wasn't an hour and forty minutes away from RPI my car would be there now. Hopefully someone in the OC with a Non-M can be the donor.

Do I need to drive all the way to CA to get this done? Cmon Im sure this can get done if the car is left there for a few days. Im sure a having the car there would be a big benefit. Whats it gonna take to get this done? Does someone need gas money or me to pay them for the day to drive over there? Shit if you get this done and the it comes out that the gains are simaler to the Ms this will be golden for us all, these cars have no aftermarket, if this pans out and the intrest is there Eloy wont forget about us in the future. Im in Ma if I had to drive 4 hours or more out of my way and take a sick day or a vacation day I would to get it done. Its well worth it IMHO |
