Red face Rasp Galore?

EDIT: HD Recordings uploaded in post #16. Enjoy in HD mode!

Why does the S54 motor rasp so much?! I just swapped out my stock section1 with a SuperSprint uncatted S-Pipe and omfg, the rasp is killing me
I might hafta put some kind of resonator into the S-Pipe to reduce all the metallic rasp

BTW, my current exhaust mods are (in order): JVT headers, SS section1, stock section2, SS race mufflers.

I ordered my SS section2 (X-Pipe) a couple weeks ago and it's supposedly coming in from Italy and I should receive it in a week or so. But I know for a fact that it will add even more rasp

The power from section1 swap is absolutely amazing though. Maybe it's because I have the headers and the ECU tune, but holy crap it surprised me when I first got on the throttle to test it out

I'm just really not a big fan of rasp though...
What to do, what to do...

You must resonate.

It's not a big deal other than having to cut the new SS section 1. Resonators won't hurt exhaust gas flow like cats. I'd be surprised if any other x-pipe made it worse - removing the cats is the rasp creator.

The AR20 or AR25 will be a pain to try to instal on your section 1 SS, you need a 9-10" resonator with a 4" body to use the SS sec 1. I tried that, trust me.

Damn...anywhere I can find such resonators then for purchase? I wanna keep my system all SuperSprint. My headers are reps, but at least reps of SS

edit: Will the magnaflow resonator work? http://www.custom-performance.net/pr...3&idproduct=25

Nope, But I may be able to get you one from the manufactory that I'm working with but that will take me at list one or two weeks, its 9" long I don't know how much it cost but I can check if that helps you out.

This may work for you http://www.clubrsx.com/cr/VIB-1792.html (but remember you should try to be with less then 9" long for the SS sec 1).

Glad to hear you got it hooked up. Hard to believe no cats (headers or section 1) and a race muffler would be loud and raspy I'm sure you can find some resonators that would weld into those pipes and tone it down a bit without really reducing flow. If not maybe a less agressive, chambered muffler? Anyhoo, howz about some sound clips I'm sure it sounds vicious

What did I tell you about all that rasp? Hahaha! Only solution is to wear ear-plugs while you drive or sound-deadening bose headphones! I just kept my stock section 1 so I won't become completely deaf.

Whelp, here are the recordings I did earlier today...split into 6 total parts, starting from a complete cold start in the garage, to a slow warm-up, and a quick freeway merging pull. The camera I used was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 HD camera/recorder. I also had the wind noise feature turned on, so the overall effect of the recording is very mellow. You may have to turn your speakers up. But the quality is very good
Though the rasp sucks
I'm going to post all 6 parts, but for most people, I would suggest watching only part 1 and part 6, for the cold start, and the freeway pull. So unless you're pretty bored, and would like to hear the car through various speeds with windows down for the most part, you really don't need to watch parts 2-5

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

Part 6

Also I think what is killing you is the headers not the S-pipe.

I'll see if it still sounds this bad after the SS x-pipe. Then will look into the resonator(s). Worst case scenario, I'll either sell my section1, or have someone fab a copy of the SS section1 and for me to put resonators into them

I did mufflers first, followed by headers, and now the section1. There was barely any rasp right after the headers, but then after I swapped the S-Pipe (section1) out, the rasp became what you hear in the videos: unbearable

I try to use my MR2 as my daily driver, but the M is just too addicting sometimes. Especially if the weather is real nice out, or if I have a hot date or something lolol
