A couple M3 pics before I get rid of the car....

The looks just didn't do it for me.. So I may get rid of this. I hate that I made a decision to settle on the newer M3 look and usually the look grows on me like the E46 M3 look did but now I really can't get passed its sedan/bland looks. The Z4MC looks more sporty and more raw like a sports car should look like.

Now onto my new Z4M search. 3 of them that I have just looked at have had subframe damage ilke the E46 M3. I thought this car didn't have this flaw so now its apparent to me that it may in the long run. That blows.

Hmmm...only a couple of weeks and you're already had a change of heart on the MC? I thought you didn't like the rough ride of the Mcoupe? Didn't know there were subframe issues with the Z4. Were these cars tracked? How many miles were on them?

Yeah the rough ride sucked a bit but was use to it. Plus my GF said she got more back aches with the few days of actual driving the M3 over the mountain passes than she ever did with the Z4MC. Thats weird as to me it was the opposite. So who knows on this one. She says the M3 looks better but I disagree. So its a coin toss here. lol

All the Z4Ms were in the 20000-40000 mile ranges and not sure if they were tracked but all cleared on car fax, which we all know doesn't show everything. Also I thought they reinforced the Z4Ms?

You know, the grass is always greener on the other side. Does it look bland? Compared to the MC, yes. Compared to most everything else on the road, no.

The M3 is one mean car. It looks like a run of the mill sedan/coupe but it has balls. For me, that's what attracts me to the M3. I'm older now so I want something that looks a bit more sophisticated when I drive to work but has balls. I don't need anything too flashy that attracts attention but I still want something that I can have some fun with. With working the hours I do, the only time I have to myself is commuting to work, right before bed and waking up early. I'd like to spend that time commuting to work having some "spirited driving".

The M3 is an awesome car and most people can only dream about it But if you've got the extra benjamins to blow on switching from one car to the next, might as well make yourself happy. We only live once.

Your car is sexy as hell. Wish I could have that in addition to my current Z.

After so many cars with numb steering and electronic everything (yes, I have driven most of them), this car is a perfect antidote. I love the screaming character of the S54 but for a daily driver I really loved the N54s torque. Not surprising since I am used to the S62 in my E39 M5.
Numb steering is right!!! I love the power and look of my Z4 3.0si but honestly, I love the handling my 2002 Honda Civic more. Even though my Civic also has electronic steering, it just feels much more nimble. People tell me getting rid of the run flats will do the trick. We shall soon see.

I'm really curious as to what the 1M feels like. Maybe I'll test drive one of those bad boys this spring.

Words of Wisdom Aries... Good stuff.

I totally hear you. If thats the case I should go get the 2008 Gallardo I have been wanting for the past 12 months but do not want the $1000+ a month payment. F-that. I remember when I use to say $190 a month was WAY to much for any car payment.

Thanks for the compliment. I am coming to other Z4 and M3 owners to get their input to see if its me. My best friend (who owns an M3) told me I shouldn't have traded in my Z4M for an E92 M3.. He was like its not much of an upgrade at all. But with the deal I got I went for it. Now a month later I am having buyers remorse. So I went shopping for Z4Ms again and saw the frame issues I thought they had resolved. My GF says I should get the Z4M again and my buddy says keep the M3 and I want the Gallardo but not the payment, so what do you do. lol

Didn't you know what it looked like before you bought it? Never really heard of someone getting rid of a car in a few weeks because they don't like they look of it. You can throw a csl style trunk and a front splitter on there to make it more aggressive looking. Also, an aftermarket exhaust will make that v8 sound like music to your ears!

That said, my next car after I get rid of the MC will be an E9x M3 as well and I know one of the biggest things ill miss about the MC is the looks. No denying that the MC is much more unique looking and eye-catching where as the M3 will mainly go unnoticed.

This is the first I've heard of any subframe issues on the Z4M except for upgraded front sways tearing loose. Please elaborate on your inspection method and what your finds are. 20-40K miles is REALLY low to have subframe damage!

I did. I saw a few really nice M3s from these forums like "Tighties" and a few others. I even test drove a few and said with some work they would look sweet. Well slowly as I added a few things I noticed it will not work for me and the look I want. I like the aggressive look and the M3 is just plain jane for my tastes. My E46 M3 with these same Volks looked much more aggressive IMO.

I drove the M3 today and I have to say the interior and iDrive is ahead of the Z4M but the Z4M has the looks and power I want. I have to have good looks and power out of the gate. The M3 has the power but not the looks. I understand a lot of people like the look of the M3 but for me its to plain.
Plus I was at Powerfreaks and saw a bunch of nicer M3s. lol That didn't help matters. LMAO.

Well I was even considering a 2011 Lotus Evora. There are a few locally for sale but one as much as $95000. Way to much but it is supercharged and 350 hp and 2800 pounds. We will see.

What is a boxer spider? Porsche? I was also looking at the new Cayman R in all black. That looked sweet with 320 hp..but they wanted $85k

Yeh, the Boxster Spyder is like the soft-top equivalent of the Cayman R. Except they have this weird top on it that is, well, stupid. Unless you used to have a 1950s-era British roadster and really, really miss getting dribbled on when it rains.

Yeah I am checking them out now. Some guy at PF Changs the other night commented on my M3. He said thats a nice "Acura" and I was like are you serious? He thought it was the new TL. Thats what I mean. The car looks like a box. lol Even to me. I may be one of the few that just doesn't like the look of the car compared to a modified NSX and modified Z4MC.

Anyway I will stop complaining and keep searching for the right car for me.

Happy New Years everyone.

Just my $.02 here.

I test drove many a car before settling on the Z3M and eventually Z4M.

You may want to start looking at 911's, especially with the 997.2's prices coming down.

You can get one in white and buy one of the sport classic kits: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/02/f...t-classic-mar/

You have to get a kit because the real 911 Sport Classics are simply not available.

Other than getting a 911 (unless you want a Viper...or Vette), and you want to stand out, I would look at the Boxster Spyder. A regular Boxster just doesn't do it for me anymore, and I was a lifelong fan of the Boxster. They didn't age well, but my GOD, the Spyder edition just looks beautiful.

Cayman's also look a lot better in person as well.

the E92 M3 are great cars, but I agree with the looks. My GF let me know she was behind a BMW the other day and I asked her what model. She said she didn't know but that it had two exhausts. The only reason she knew to look for two exhausts was because I explained to her what some of the styling differences are between M cars and other BMW's. Other than that, she just thought it was a regular BMW.

Amazingly, I think the Nissan GT-R is in the same category. Amazing car, but when one drove by me the other day, it just didn't look special. However, when an early Viper drove by me a few days later, you noticed it.

There just aren't may options in the sub-Porsche 911 to M3 range for performance or price. I always though the Z4M sat nicely just below the modern 911's and slightly above the Boxsters.

If you really want to get attention, back date a 1993 911 to the RS.....

I think driving experience is #1 over looks, unless you are looking for a pure status symbol or a garage queen investment. However, looks is something you need to consider.

All good information. I am with you. Yeah the GTR to me is still a Nissan and even though they are bad ass on the road in performance I honestly would never own one. I have owned 350zs and 370zs.. I won't go back to Nissan.

I don't care about standing out, but I want something that peaks my interest. The E92 M3 is a Jetta on steroids (sorry to sound harsh) for me and what I have owned in the past which included better cars I should not have gotten rid of but like someone else stated you only live once so its nice to have a variety. I thought the E92 M3 would grow on me and its clear that it won't keep my interest, since the Jetta never did when I was in high school. So I am going back to a E86 M. To me a much better car in every aspect, regardless of the status symbol of the M3 or power. I will have to make due with the back pain. LOL Oh well. I have an X5 for daily driving..

The Lotus Evora is the only other car I am looking at right now and can get into a 2011 for high $50k to low $60s. $90k for the E92 M3 killer.

Typical Porsche special edition, imo - mostly cosmetics and an options package. Same performance as my 5-year old M Coupe without an LSD? Pass.
