This is incorrect. The Z4M (p/n 23007837983) and E46 330 6-speed (p/n 23007532498) are not the same. They are both variations of the GS6-37BZ, but not identical.
Being variations on the GS6-37BZ most lilely means external variations such as mounting points for example. Even with the different pilot bearing issue I'd guess they still have the same splined input shaft. My friend that ran the Z4MC in Grand Am has said that you can't use M3 clutch parts, have to use stuff for the Z4M with this gear box - I take this to mean they had to use a different clutch disk for the differing spline count. I guess we still don't know for sure what the input shaft looks like

Give them a ring and see what they have to say. They have alot of experience with the Z4 due to Ben having a Z4 with an E39 M5 V8 in it. Car looks sooo amazing.

They are spectacular! So glad I got them for free from my buddy, and saved on labor by installing ourselves lol. Car has an ample amount of power with my current setup. Can't wait to hit the tracks again. My next track day is on February 6th

I need to return to a DynaPack to see how much I've gained since the pre-headers 295rwhp & 245rwtq #'s.

I did a DynoJet session this morning, but it was insufficient in two ways:
1) they used 4th gear to run my car, as opposed to the 3rd gear runs I've been doing on DynaPacks
2) they did not provide me with any fans to feed fresh air into the engine bay; which is what I've also been doing for my DynaPack runs

Hard to count, I get 22 or 23 splines. More, smaller splines isn't bad from a strength point of view though, is it? Not that input shaft slpine strength is even that relevant on this car.....
Different car completely

That's correct we have the crank mounted pilot like the e46m3, and use the same flywheel.

What splines the input shaft have is still up for grabs though.

As for the products that got linked, anything that is a clutch/flywheel package advertised as for regular z4s z4ms and 330s is not going to work on the z4m and was just a salesman punching things in he was guessing at.

^Maybe that's right. Although Turner seems to have a pretty good reputation as a serious BMW shop.

Interesting that it has a different part number on it.

So the M3 Flywheel works but not the clutch ? Clutch shopping soon and want a lightweight flywheel now that warranty is up soon, I've got a good relationship with quite a few clutch companies so I'll make a few calls and see what I can come up with.

You wont know what clutch you can use let alone what brand makes the appropriate disc until you get confirmation from someone who has physically seen it.

Unless one of the vendors tells you (and doesn't lie) that they have physically confirmed what clutch is in the car.

Alternative option is buy a clutch.

From RealOEM.com - part number:
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...18&hg=23&fg=05

Post #16 here confirms the GS6-37BZ part number in Z4M:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=276457

Last post here suggests 22 spline count:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1551209

Page 8 seems to confirm 22 spline count on input shaft of GS6-37BZ:
http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/...0Driveline.pdf

And even though the above .pdf is from '05, pre-Z4M, this thread referring to a press release seems to confirm that the Z4M has the same trans as earlier 3.0i 6-spd cars:
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...t=99642&page=2

I'm thinking it's got to be 22 spline count based on the above sources. I've sent a message to my friend that had the Koni Z4M race car, hopefully he car remember spline count, they had at least two gearboxes. Would be nice to lay this one to rest....

Unfortunately none of that confirms it. It's all do do with the non M versions of the transmission. We KNOW the M versions input shaft is different and this is the part with the splines on it. It's different because it has to be to use a crank located bearing over the flywheel located that the other versions use.

They may or may not have changed the spline count to the standard, they probably didn't, but knowing the input shaft is different they may have.

The RealOEM info is specifically for my VIN, so at least that link is definitely for a Z4M car and trans. Reportedly this trans was used in 3.0i Z4 cars for their 6-spd - what kind of pilot bearing is used in them? Same as 330i or Z4M? Probably still won't help figure out spline count for certain.

I don't know the answer to this for certain either, but I would think that the same gear box with two different input shafts would have two different part numbers or model numbers since it's a pretty important difference. I'll try to contact more people to see if some one who as seen it with their own eyes can remember the spline count. My friend with the Z4M race car is certain that it's different from the M3, but can't recall exact spline count. Maybe he'll have an old clutch disk laying around....
