Remus sounds like stock, wouldnt even bother with it.
RE on the other hand is pretty deep and sounds great.

No experience with Remus.

If you can live with a significant drone between 2 and 3k, the RE is great. Nice deep rumble not raspy at all and it screams > 5k.

The Diablo is probably a bit noisier then what you want, SS Powerloop or Remus is probably the better bet; but I have the simple solution...

Check out my car. I've put about 1k miles on my RE so it's broken in.

Aren't you in Lake Orion? I'm down the street in Clarkston.
You're going to the Cars, Coffee, & Karts meet on Saturday right?

With the top down, the Remus sounds like stock *at idle*; it's pretty beefy and noticeably louder than stock at half to full throttle--Deeper tone and good growl with no drone. The sound coming to you through the Coupe's interior would certainly be different. It all depends on your taste for volume and tone. You might have different expectations for your DD versus a weekend fun car. Personally I don't want mine to sound like a track car as I do some 5+hour trips pretty regularly.

Your best bet is to listen to some real cars from INSIDE the cabin, since that's where you'll be 99% of the time. Z-fest in LA over the labor day weekend would be a good time for that [plug.]

Supersprint powerloops are really what you're looking for but they're $2,000 and the Remus is $1,250, I don't think the small difference is worth the price of an ESS tune or GruppeM intake

I have AA headers which make the car a lot louder and a tiny bit raspy. I'm going to get Remus cans to help smooth out the sound to a more exotic tone. Just need to stop spending all my extra cash on track days

The Supersprint Powerloop Mufflers are nice! A very nice, refined sound:

Any header will make the exhaust sound more tinny and exotic. On my E46 M3, the Supersprint Step Header dramatically changed the exhaust note to a more exotic tone.

I have Stromung on my 06 M Raodster and really like them. The are not too loud and have a nice deep sound at idle. There is that previously mentioned bit of a drone between 2k and 3k RPM but I'm believing that is a symptom of the engine. The Stomungs have gotten deeper after a few weeks of driving and the price is hard to beat: $895 for a pair. I got a discount on mine because they do not have the name engraved on the tips and were a speical order that was not picked up. Install is a piece of cake. I did it myself with the help of a neighbor (only because my old back didn't like crawling under the car) and is simply remove and replace with no cutting required. Seem to be very high quality and I recommend you seriously consider them.

I've always been a fan of the Remus. I haven't heard them on the M specifically, but I have heard them on many other Bimmers- 328ci, E92 M3, etc. Usually their sound results in "wow, what did you do to that engine?" comments vs. "that's a loud exhaust." They'd be the first I'd go to. On their other models they sound like a meaner, slightly louder car, and aren't obnoxious at all. Unfortunately, like I said, I haven't gotten to hear them on a Z4M, but (judging from other user's reviews) I think it'd be safe to assume they would continue with the same philosophy. One thing is certain - no one will ever mistake a Remus-equipped M for a ricer. If you elect to add headers on down the road, a louder exhaust now might make it too loud later.

I had the RPIs, which were fantastic on short runs, but drove me to distraction on longer runs. Next, I moved on to the Remus. At first I thought they were a bit too quiet, but after 7 months and a couple of thousand miles, I've decided they are PERFECT. No drone, and never intrusive in the coupe's cabin. I find I usually drive with the windows down when out on the twisties so I can better hear the Remus's beautiful tone.
