ESS Supercharger for N52

Has anyone purchased and installed one of these yet for their Z4? I'm thinking of getting it this year.

I'm going to do the same. Just picked up my 06 Z4 3.0Si w/ 32k miles and it seems like the perfect candidate for a supercharger as soon as I'm done fixing the top. I'll go with VF or ESS, whoever has a 15%-30% sale first lol..

Back in 14 I believe VF had a 25% off spring sale on superchargers, if they run a deal similar to that I'll pull the trigger in a heartbeat.

It's through ESSTuning.
Here's the link:
http://esstuning.com/ess-n52-vt1-sup...-system-gen-2/

Mine was delivered a few days ago. Now I'm reading through the instructions prepping (i.e.: The car's last dealer checkup, dyno, etc.), and finding a free weekend for a DIY install.

I know bmwZ installed it but there might be one other member. Be sure to follow this thread as BPC is doing a custom tune for an E90 owner:

Here's what mine looks like. It was about a 12-hour job. Less if you know what you're doing.

How's it running? Have you run it on a dyno yet?

Where is your MAF sensor located?

You'll need a custom tune for the headers - ESS won't touch them.

I had to uninstall it for emissions pass and tags.
Install requires you to cut the MAF sensor wiring. I installed a bridge circuit. Will reinstall in a few weeks after the paint dries on my new bumpers and hood, and winter ends.
Unfortunately, I'll be missing the club dyno day.

Factory location of the MAF is on top of the pipe leading from the filter box to the throttle body. Basically the first thing to disconnect when replacing the air filter.
The kit relocates it to the bottom of the ESS pipe leading to the throttle body. The kit was not designed for the E85 - lots of leftover and spare parts. There is plenty of room for improvement or custom fabrication work.

Was this the version 2 kit?

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is whether it's a draw thru or blow thru setup. Most aftermarket kits are draw thru, which requires a higher safety margin in the tune (since inlet air temp is calculated and not directly measured as part of the MAF), and can't account for boost leaks, heat soak, or allow use of a blow off valve vs a bypass. Blow thru setups require more MAF scaling and risk MAF sensor contamination due to oil (from CCV), but measure the air right before the throttle body so it's most accurate (assuming no contamination).

My VF kit is draw thru, and I've considered converting to blow thru with an intercooler.

Hey Forbes! I was wondering if you still have the supercharger on? How has it held up? I was wanting to purchase and do an install within the next couple of weeks if ESS ever restocks their website. How many miles did you have on your car when you installed it? Sorry for so many questions but you are the only person I know who has done this.

Never reinstalled after removing to pass air care.
That was about 3000 miles of fun. The power was great. But the list of cons include:
Not street legal, about 20% decrease in milage, increased maintenance (R&R SC lubricant), it is dirty (the blow-by overwhelms the car's oil separator) and worst, the sound is unnatural.
