iPhone 3G S
FWIW. Just received my iPhone 3GS yesterday and after two attempts it married up to the bluetooth in the car. I am happy to say that it is working well.

btw, phone rocks. Upgraded from the 2G version and am loving it!

My iphone took a lot more than 3 tries....but i finally got it synched up now. Not that the bluetooth works well enough to use. But in a pinch, and if I'm shifting and need to answer the phone, its good enough for a quick conversation if the tops not down or I'm going under 40 mph.

The iPhone is one of the few phones that gives you control of BlueTooth Headset volume from the phone itself. Usually the headset device is the source control of the volume.
The reason I bring this up is that it's an important note for pairing to the Zed that after your initial pairing, you need to make a call using bluetooth, and then adjust the volume on the phone (using the buttons on the side of the iphone) to the phone's MAX while on the call, and then hang up. This will permanently set the phone's volume for this bluetooth pairing. (The default bluetooth headset volume on the iPhone is way too low to work with the BMW kit). You can now use the cars volume buttons on future calls to adjust the volume higher or lower.

Thanks for that tip, I didn't that. Probably explains why I couldn't hear on my last call

Yeah, it helps a bit, I am always turning it up and down cause my Plantronics headset is WAY too loud with the phone BT volume all the way up.
Also, for the iPhone, if you turn on Wifi it gets much better connection to the Zed as well

I picked up a cable at Best Buy to connect the 3GS into the aux. in, works great and was less than $20.00. Now with the Sirius XM app. I can listen to sat radio when I am in a rental or loaner.

It's just a standard auxillary cable (male 3.5mm plugs on either end).

The connector you seek is: http://www.inspiretech.com/p-483-doc...dio-cable.aspx (There are other similar products as well). For me, and many others, the "Holy Grail" connector would be a dock port "replicator" which would plug into the dock port on the phone and provide aux-out and the another dock port (or male usb) so you could charge while using the dock-aux. To my knowledge, no one has yet developed this...Although wht a lot of people do is just use the normal Apple Universal Dock Station in their cars since it essentialy does this (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB484G/A)

http://www.sendstation.com/us/produc...neout-usb.html The PocketDock connects to the dock connector on you iPhone and has a cable that plugs into it and will plug into your aux input. Advantages are line out (standardized constant volume) and no equalization. You now control the volume and equalize as you wish. This company is prompt and they air mail from Germany within a week. |

Forgot to confirm that the SendStation PocketDock works fine with my new iPhone 3G S. Just ignore the warning that its not designed for iPhone. No interference.

the regular aux cable is more than enough for the crappy sound system in our Zeds IMO.

My setup
I've got a nice setup in my M using the ProClip mounting system with their passthrough dock and the Griffin AutoPilot. I previously used the SendStation PocketDock, but the connector was just too bulky for my tastes and kept coming unconnected from the ProClip dock.
The AutoPilot gives the same warning on the 3G and 3GS that you have to ignore, but past that, you get the line level output from the dock connector, as well as tactile buttons to change tracks on the cigarette lighter jack. Using the ProClip dock with the passthrough connector, when I get in my car I just drop the phone into the dock and I'm done...no cables to plug in every time. Nice setup sirmalloc! I have a nano that I don't use for anything but my car, but maybe I will have to look into something like this and just sell the nano, it looks very slick

Also found a holy grail solution. The dock for the original iPhone (2G) had a aux out and USB power. The new 3G and 3GS don't fit well into the old dock, so I bought a male-to-female ipod chord extender. This is routed into the same ProClip mount sirmalloc is picturing. The only end-result difference with this set up, because not using a 3rd party dock, there are no incompatibility warnings when I put the phone in the dock.
