2008 Key stopped working. $50 got it fixed
www.bmwgm5.com/kr.htm
Miracle worker. I was convinced it was battery in the fob but he disagreed. I sent it off, got it back and resynced. Presto! Worky. Better than me mangling my key myself(and still not working, since most times its a dead capacitor and not the battery) or paying BMW $200 plus. He also tossed in a new battery in the fob. Just a heads up for anyone with the issue of deadkey. Scotts the man!

Good to know ! Both my keys still work but the range is absolutely atrocious. I have to literally be standing beside the car for them to work.

Thats how mine started then boom....dead. Went all last summer manually unlocking my car, freaking out about scratches on door.

Bought one of his GM5 relay kits years ago for my 330i. $500 module fixed for under $50.

OP - Is the range decent after the repair? Or do you still have to be within a couple parking spaces to get it to work?

As far as the service he cuts key, replaces some capacitors that usually break loose. It's usually not the battery at all. He then glues it back and sends your way. It's a butch to do if your not super handy with a solder gun and have no clue what to fix or have parts laying around. There is a wall of shame that shows people's repair job attempts that he was sent to fix after they destroyed their keys attempting themselves. Horror show.

Do you have the oval mirror? Apparently, part of BMW's solution to this issue was to use the oblong mirror => http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=484474

Mine is better than "2 feet", but I used to be able to open the top up by pressing and holding the remote button, but now I find it doesn't work unless I am standing very close. I suspect that the signal is weak, and it needs to be seen as "pressed" by the car for a long period of time, and any interruption breaks the process. |
