Yes I was going to use FireBall coatings in Erin. I've used the UPS store in Lewiston which was pretty quick to get in and out of.

I've used CBI USA a few times and it's been great, but on larger purchases I've still gotten dinged at the border for duty.

I have had lower duty fees with USPS when ordering parts to Canada
Something weird is happening with customs charges with UPS as well as FED EX
My 2 cents
Good Luck

Ship to Lewiston and pick them up. That's what I do all the time. I'm hoping to pick up a set of euro headers this spring and do just that. My buddy that has an M3 wants a set of euro headers too. So the trip will be worth our time and money....... and any other mods that may happen to show up......

I was thinking of going the Euro header route initially as well but thought you'd spend $500-700 on something used that you really don't know the mileage or history. Here your getting something new for $700, just get a set of these and call it a day. Maybe we can get it down to $690.

Cyclops do you have any idea how is the comparison between Euro headers and the Statur Gruppe?

Thank you.

I couldn't tell you as I haven't owned either, however, the reviews on the e46 m3 boards are pretty good.

Status Gruppe claims 8-15 WHP increase just bolt on and with proper tune most see a gain of 25-30WHP

The basis of those claims was US headers or euro?

Thank you.

Anyone have these paired with an aftermarket exhaust? Curious how loud this would be

Looks like there are 8 people committed now. Add me to the count and that will be 9, just one off to make it 10 and the price comes down to $710. I don't know why I'm so exited about $10. Anyone else going to jump on this?

Cyclops, thanks for posting this. I'm really interested but, having had the car for only a short while now, I haven't had the time to research header options.

Some time spent on the forums tells me this is a good choice, but wondering if the $10 are worth a couple mins of your time to comment on why you choose these over others? Also, I've never heard of this tuning shop before. Is their tune reputable and/or tested by fellow owners?

Thanks!

^^E46 community has much experience with TTFS, particularly his custom-tuning wizardry. I assume the tune that's available in the GB is their off-the-shelf tune, and that the custom remote-logging tune is still big bucks. I hope I'm wrong because $500 for the custom tune would be a smokin deal

Yeah, I'd like to do intake + headers and a tune all at once, so wondering if this is the best way to go about it. $500 is def a solid bargain.

I know that the tunes take care of the CEL, but how do headers affect emissions inspections? Assuming you use ESS for the ability to switch back and forth from stock?

Honestly I don't have an answer as in no means I'm an exhaust or header expert, however, this is my thought process from the information I gathered so take it with a grain of salt. Also, I'm new to Status Gruppe as a Manufacturer myself and since I have only ready of one install on this forum I lean on the e46 M3 forums for info.

I personally classify headers into 4 categories;
  • Premium - Proven track record, high quality, high cost
  • Mid-High - Engineered and made in the USA, reputation gaining traction
  • Mid-Low - Engineered in USA but made in China
  • Low - Engineered and made in China by unknown source

It's assumed that for all of these headers you'll need to move the secondary sensors to a new location somewhere on section 1 or use a Euro catted section one. Also, just my own personal opinion but I put a higher grade level on T304 Stainless steel made in the USA vs China and I assume that all USA made headers use USA made steel.
  1. (Premium) The ultimate header to get is the SuperSprint stepper header but it comes at a premium price of over 2k and you'll need a new section 1 as the connecting tube is larger. Then there is the SuperSprint V1 which will connects to your stock at $1800. Super sprint has a proven track record for making great exhaust.
  2. (Mid-High) This is where I put companies like Fabspeed and Status Gruppe. Both company make their headers in the USA and are gaining a solid reputation. Though I'd put Fabspeed above Status gruppe as Status Gruppe started to make their headers in China but now V3 is made in USA. Cost for these is pretty reasonable at $800-$1400. I'd also put stock used Euro headers in this category $500-$800.
  3. (Mid-Low) This is where I'd put companies like Active Autowerke, USA engineered but made in China. Status gruppe was in this category but since they are on their 3rd revision of the headers and now made in USA they moved up to Mid-High. Cost $500-$1000
  4. Low- all headers you can get on ebay for $100-$300. Hit or miss on fitment and proper bung placement. Not sure on quality but for $200 what can you expect

There are other manufacturers like Acency power, Macht Schell, AFE, etc
In my opinion ST is a good bang for you buck, though, if Fabspeed sold their headers at the same price I'd go Fabspeed. But for me the paired tune for $500 is like a icing on a cake.

Hope that helps some what.

You already have the Euro headers, the gains to aftermarket would be minimal.
You will get more by just doing a tune on your car.

Anyone thinking headers should be all over this GB.

Cyclops, thanks for taking the time for that write up! I agree with you on the quality specs, and seems like this might be a great value GB since I simply can't justify the pricing of Supersprint no matter good they may be.

Only thing I don't understand is - Since a catted section 1 is required, why not use the stock US Section 1? Is that because it's only a secondary cat? Does the Status Gruppe 200 cell section 1 fit this purpose (It's also part of the GB as an accessory)?

OK so I just talked to Mike at Status Gruppe and I have a correction about the tune. The TTFS tune that they are offering for $500 is only for the E46 M3, apparently the Z4M uses a different ECU and is more similar to the the e90 platform then the E46. So they can do a tune for the Z4M but its $700. Well that kind of bust my bubble on the tune side of things. I think I'll only get the headers at this point and look into an Epic tune afterwards.

Good to know, thanks for the heads up. I'm tempted to just get the headers + coating, and get tune another day

Thanks for looking into that. I exchanged a couple emails with Mike, and he confirmed that the tune is $700 for the Z4M. At this point, even I'm in it for headers and catted section 1. That brings the current total to 10.

I just sent my deposit in for the headers so make that 11.

As for the tune I just checked TTFS website and they list that tune for $695, I'm going to see if we can get some kind of discount as he quoted us list price.
