Hard Top pickup
Question for all of the hard top owners. I just stumbled across a hard top for sale that I'm considering. I was wondering if it would be safe for me to go pick it up before I have the hardtop posts installed? Its about an hour and a half on the highway each way.
I know the posts are easy to install, the problem is that none of the dealers stock them. Second question, my M is Imola Red, and this top is Bright Red, the pre facelift color. Is this going go look completely like shit, or can I get away with it for a little while? Thanks |

Rent a van and go pick it up don't dare drive it without the posts as at speed the pressure difference in the cabin would cause a blow off lol even if the front latch is installed. Plus I wouldn't risk it anyhow. Call enterprise and get a van with UNLIMETED mileage or whatnot and drive it back. Also don't ship as they will almost always show up destroyed ....
The van will be around 70 bucks for a 24hr rental at least that's what I paid |

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Decided to pass on this hardtop, (didn't want to buy one that I'd have to paint), but I'll get those post installed anyway so I'm ready for the next one. |

Will likely be difficult to find one in the exact color, although Imola is fairly common. Not sure how you use the car, in weather and everything. As you may have seen in this forum, there are lots of comments about top motors rusting out early. Even though I live in a low-rain environment, I use the hardtop to get through the rainy season so the water does not get down to the motors. Just saying, the motors are at least a $2K repair job, so stack that up against the cost to paint.
