New CF roof Group Buy for Z4 M/non-M Coupe

I am putting together a Group Buy for those interested in a VERY high quality CF roof for their Z4 Coupe. The master thread is HERE.

I am also curious what other CF products the Z community would like to see produced. I have an "in" with Carbon Smith now, and they have told me that they are willing to make us ANYTHING so long as we can justify their expenses with appropriate sales. So let's brainstorm!

I was always curious about how this works,
is this a replacement to the metal roof with cut and weld type? or just CF piece glued on top of metal top?

-This CF panel replaces the BMW steel panel. Installation is pretty straightforward. Both are held in place with four bolts and a bead of industrial adhesive. The net weight savings is 12lbs. It's possible to DIY installation, depending on your level of mechanical expertise.

Oh nice,

I thought coupe had a welded roof.
I think this is such a cool mod and i would have done it in my heart beat if I had a coupe.

What about the front quarter panels I suggested in a thread once?

-I like the idea. There is some weight to be lost there.

For non-coupes GP20 suggested a CF hardtop, which is one of the most saleable ideas I've heard of so far.

i would be interested if the price is right. the hardtop itself is around 2k. not sure how much material and cost would require. hopefully not too much

I'd like to see a vorsteiner style carbon fiber hood.

No one makes CF hoods for our cars!

-I'm already in talks about the effectiveness of a real rear diffuser, maybe even an adjustable one. First I need to see if it can be done while keeping the stock exhaust location.

-You mean the grill insert or the grill trim? Or the whole thing?

-That's a really good idea! Would looks especially hot on Sapphire Black MRs! Are those hoops the same on non-Ms too?

-Because there's no good weight savings. Our hoods are already aluminum, and at best we'd lose 10lbs going to CF. Non-Ms might save more, if they have steel hoods. But I agree that the looks are what would sell it. They would retail for about $2500 (maybe less, depending on material cost fluctuations), and then would still need paint and mounting. So figure somewhere between $3000 and $3500 for the whole thing to be finished. That's a good chunk of cash.

I was kicking around an idea of making just CF GTR vents that could be mounted to the stock aluminum hood by cutting holes in it (a template would have to be supplied) and then attaching the GTR vents. But I'm not sure if that could be done without it looking clunky. It would certainly cut costs for the whole project considerably!

Just a thought but how about a CF Trim kit, exterior only though, such as side mirror covers, front grill(both pieces), tail light trim for the pre facelift Z's, and as mentioned above, CF roll hoops? Just a thought.

If I remember correctly...CF is about 2/3 - 3/4 the density of aluminum.
