JetHot coating on headers; worth it or not?

I know '-villa's opinion on this
&.... it has been discussed a few times already.

Assuming cost is in the $300 range
Just looking for opinions is it worth it or not.
what are the realistic benefits of jethot coating headers? (new installation)

i would do this if i was putting in euro or aftermarket headers, if their already in place..... i wouldn't bother imo!!

hell id do it just for the clean look, let alone the benefits of heat retention..... looking at your cars spec, i think its time you added FI !!!

^ Yes, new installation it is.

FI? sounds like balls out fun, but too many legal issues here for me.
so, looking at the normal NA mods; gain a little power where you can & try to drop some weight

When I had my AA headers they got hot enough to boil the windshield fluid out of the cleaning jets on to my nice clean hood. Very frustrating. I would do it and will do it on my euro headers.

WOW!!!

interestingly ive never had such an issue with my stock euro headers...
thats the thing with aftermarket manifolds.... bmw spend millions and millions on working out where heat is leaving the manifold right down to the shape....

i know for a fact... the aftermarket just simply CANT apply this level of detail....

as well as being free flowing the headers have to disperse heat and a certain way and equal way at that.....

Yep. Started the summer after I put the AA's in. Didnt notice the first fall because of lower ambient temps, but in the heat of summer it would expand the fluid enough to bubble out of the windshield washer nozzles. The AA's were real reflective too, maybe that was a contributing factor to radiating the heat.

That's why if I ever get enough free time to do mine, they're not getting a coating. The Euros look stock, and that's just what I want them to look like.

I used black VHT header paint on my JVTs before I installed them, and it only cost me like $10 for the spray can. Turned out very clean, as my friend helped me spray them, and he's done lots of paint work before

I had mine coated with the upper level one, in grey color. Why? Because underhood temps are significantly reduced, and I can almost touch them when they're "hot". Very little heat radiates from them. Great for FI application

Jet hotted my headers.

2nd thing I have jet hotted. First thing was my turbo manifold for 91 Miata. I used to run with a group of turbo'd miatas and there was a significant difference in under hood temps for the manifolds that were jet hotted vs those that were not using the same turbo kit.

^ FI, I can definitely understand.
It just seems like a little overkill on a NA motor.

You would think that eliminating the header CATs would let things run cooler than OE.
I was surprised that mousitch had the problem with his AA's ....seems strange.

I did it, and left the heat shield off.

It makes a difference. Noticed (not measured), that car warms up a bit quicker as well.

That's how things work in my world. If it's one out of hundred, I'd be the one. For instance if 1 of 100 sets of AA headers had an issue, I guarantee that set be handpicked for me. But yes, I've never heard of this issue either but I'm sure it was related.

Were you able to reinstall the heat shield with the AA headers?

Yes. Not an issue at all. in fact the only issue I had was one or two of the studs backed out woith the bolt. Easy install. Took my time at 10 hours. The O2 sensors were kind of a bitch. Used a Harbor freight removal socket. I will search out a better tool next time. Easy to twist the wires and damage.

FYI, coating the headers helps retain heat, which helps with exhaust gas velocity and adds a few horsepower. It also lowers underhood temps as others have mentioned.

Additionally, it helps the cats get up to operating temperature sooner, so it helps with emissions.
