They don't care about losing the 7 committed customers we have now, let alone willing to make an exception or give a larger discount for 10.

I've had experience running over two dozen group buys over the years and this is the first one that's crashed and burned. Quite disappointing considering this is a quality product that costs significantly less than other non-custom options.

Questions are:

1) Will the 7 current participants be willing to settle for the 10-order minimum discount of 10%?

2) If all 7 current participants agree to stay on, can we get another 3 by tomorrow (or in another week with an extension)?
I appreciate the work and effort you've put in on this GB (and the others you've run). It's a great service to the community and it's no small amount of work. The crash and burn is no reflection whatsoever on you (I think the vendor is the reason for reasons below).

In terms of this GB, like others have said, the reluctance on the part of the vendor to budge on price is probably part of the issue; the economy a factor (including fuel costs which go to running these beasts); and a saturation of the exhaust market (many folks have an exhaust already). The two main issues IMO were a lower priced GB in the past which set a huge price point expectation and subsequent disappointment when the the vendor told us to "pound sand" regarding pricing. Contrast that with some of the other vendors who worked with us on GBs. It sure didn't leave a good taste in my mouth about what the customer service or quality might be like....

Personally, I was very interested but my new found track addiction put this well behind other needs in terms of priority (tires, brakes, track day fees). And I really did find the vendor's attitude off-putting on a gut level regardless of whatever logical reasons there were behind the pricing.

Thanks again for trying to work the deal for us.

this is disappointing and unfortunate, especially considering 45acp's efforts.

I, for one, will stick...even a 10% discount is better than no discount.

Just a thought, maybe should have opened it up to both m and non-m's and kept the same price % discounts. Maybe that would have done it? :shrugs:

Stromung doesn't make exhausts for the non-M Z4.

4SACP, I appreciate your effort putting this GB together. I will stick with this even 10% is nice considering how much other exhausts cost. Let's get a count of how many are commited and check with Stromung what discount they can offer. I understand if you don't want to do that and just end this GB.

Thanks again for your time and effort.

I'm really surprised. I had one on two different e30's in my past. LOVED them on e30's.

There's only 4 of us who are willing to proceed, which doesn't even qualify for the 10% discount. I will approach Stromung on Wednesday morning (once the deadline is over) to see what he's willing to do.

1. 45ACP
2. dekaliber (with 15 min orders)
3. sho-one (with 15 min orders)
4. cgroppi (with 15 min orders)
5. johanness

Got some good news

Stromung got back to me overnight and said they're willing to split the difference between the 10 and 15 minimum order discount if we get 10 confirmed participants.

$895 MSRP with 12.5% discount = $783.13
That's about $112 in savings!

I'll extend the deadline until this Friday, 4/15, to help us reach 10 orders.

So who is in or out?

1. 45ACP
2. dekaliber (with 15 min orders)
3. sho-one (with 15 min orders)
4. cgroppi (with 15 min orders)
5. johanness
6. vicj
7. RobMCoupe

Correct, but Stromung says the shipping boxes are relatively compact and will use UPS wholesale pricing. I'm guessing around $30 depending on your location from SoCal.

Don't you already have Diablos? Not happy with them?

Anyone in Toronto area have these installed? I might be interested but would have to hear them first. Currently I'm leaning towards Remus.

Im very happy with them. but i have headers waiting for install. im wondering if diablos + headers will be too loud for my taste. that's why i was thinking about more quiet mufflers.

then there's diokaef's system that im debating which is a whole 'nother story lol

This is exactly what I'm thinking. Just got my headers ceramic-coated and am anxious to get them in. I feel that with any other system it may be too much sound. I'm not looking to blow my brains out with interior noise.
These ones are nice and deep with no drone or rasp. So it seems like a really good fit. I only hope there's no power LOSS with them going down to a 2 1/4" pipe, because they're still a flow-through design (which I like).

The only other curve-ball is Gio's system, but it won't be ready until September and could be a lot of $$$.

I am in at $783.13 plus shipping. 45ACP - Don't think I can message you info you requested as I don't have enough posts, let me know if theres another way to get at you. I appreciate the work you've put in towards this group buy, it certainly does not sound like it was any easy task to organize.

I have not heard any of these exhausts in person, but to those who have, is the Rogue Diablo significantly louder than the Stromung? These are the only two options that appear to be somewhat milder from the little I can gather from videos. I'm looking for an improvement in volume and tone over stock, but do not want anything excessive as the car does see significant highway miles and the sound of this engine too opened up is not a particularly pleasant one to my ears. I am also considering headers at some point in the future.

as a matter of reference, the loudness of aftermarket mufflers for the z4m's range from mildest to loudest - remus, stromung, eisenmann, supersprint, arqray, re diablo, rpi, kreissieg. the custom route varies in loudness depending on the type of muffler u select, albeit the choices are very limited due to the space constraints of the muffler area on the z4ms.
