New friend for the Z......Corvair
Just bought this car yesterday with the intent of restoration. It is amazing how far cars have come, but it still is a hoot to drive and surprisingly quick for a 110 horsepower 2 speed car.

Very nice, I can remember some pretty sweet looking custom Corvairs in their day.
These things must be getting pretty rare now. After R.Nadar got finished with them, they disappeared pretty quickly. |

One f the nicest US designs of that time period, and I've been tempted to snag one on many occasions. Mine would be a convertible, black with red interior and white top.

If I did get one, I could never go home again - the Corvair represents scandal on the street where I grew up. A friend's dad a couple of houses up was paralyzed from the waist down in an accident while driving one. Guy was stuck in a wheelchair for 30 years and miraculously recovered - then left the wife who'd cared for him and supported the family the entire time. She's an alcholic now, and his kids hate his guts. Somehow, everyone blames the Corvair...

We made one into a crazy mid-engine v8 racer in shop class. Teach used it for ice-racing in the winter. Been a fan since (but then I've got a built Beetle too). Birds of a feather...

My first car was a 65 monza beige inside and out. Bought it for $150 in 1991. It died a year later and I bought a 69 monza sport coupe with 50k on it. Great fun car. Sold it ten years later to a guy looking to restore it with his son. I'd only put about another 20k on it by then, and it had perfect interior and no rust. Loads of fond memories!
