Help/questions with rims

Hey guys,

So I have a 2003 2.5 Tsilver with the sports package. So I'm assuming its factory lowered. I'm looking to change my 17in rims to something else.

I was thinking of going 19in, but I'm a pretty aggressive driver and I'm in NYC, most roads are broken or not very smooth. I'm afraid they might crack or the ride would just be terrible. correct me if I'm wrong.

So I figured I'd go with 18's. I was looking into the VMR v710 gun metal.
http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/Whee...duct_info.html

or maybe something from modbargins, the m6 style one's

Now I don't understand how the spec's for wheels work, I tried googling with no luck. Some people have different back rims vs front, etc

And what do the numbers mean?
"Front: 19 x 8.5 +34
Rear: 19 x 10 +26
Nitto Invo tires
Front: 245/35/19
Rear: 275/30/19"

So what would be a good set up spec wise with tires for my model.
not to much wheel well space but not rubbing on turns either.

Also, since I won't get run flats, do you guys carry a spare in the trunk? or should i get a 5th rim and put it in the trunk?

Thanks in advance, sorry for the novice questions.

Amir

That is called a staggered setup when the rear wheels are wider than the front

19 is the size of the rim.

8.5 & 10 is the width in inches of the rim.

the +## is the offset
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/...jsp?techid=101
offset is one of the most important specs for proper fitment.

245 & 275 is the width of the tire in mm

35 & 30 is the size of the side wall which is a % of the width (245 & 275)
so the side wall is 35% of 245. This is also called profile, ex low profile tire.

19 is the size of rim it fits.

For your application, 8.5" ET30-35 and 9.5" ET42-45 staggered wheel setup should work well.

Trickiest thing I've discovered with wheels is offset. It's a simple enough concept, but it's easy to get screwed up when converting inches to millimeters and there's some simple, but important math. For example, just b/c the offset is the same, doesn't mean they'll fit. You also have to take into account the wheel width.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing a 10" wide rear wheel with a +26 offset is a little too aggressive unless you want to seriously stretch your tires.
But I may be wrong.

I'd suggest looking at what other's are running. It depends on how conservative/aggressive you want to be. I'd do 225/35 and 265/30, but that's just me.

I purchased the 18x8 18x9 wheel set.

Wondering If I need spacers for these http://www.**********s.com/Avant-Gar...Silver-BMW.htm

z4 2.5, I read some people say a 12mm will flush it out evenly with the fenders.

Any recommendations?
