My First S54 Vlave Adjustment after MANY S14 valve adjustments.

First. thanks for the guidance, advise, and valve kit, goes to Mark (Blind32).
Let me say this, compared to a valve adjustment on an S14 engine this was CAKE! Somewhat similar though in engine design. S14 shims are about the size of a quarter, I was shocked at the size of these tiny things!. S54 shims are far easier for removal, the s14 shims require a picked and magnet. The good news is almost half needed not adjustment. Plus I was able to check the Vanos gear and Vanos bolts and all were in great shape. Doing all of this sure helped me from worrying about my engine. I feel a great deal of relief. Thanks again Mark!

Tis the season!
I was amazed how simple it actually is. Just need to pay attention to detail, have the spreadsheet, and make sure all the holes are plugged. The shims can get away from you! Although my older BMW's don't have the shims, holding the adjuster just "right" so feeler gauge has just the "right" drage on it while trying to tighten the adjuster nut, really isn't much easier. I feel confident I will do the next adjustment on the M myself.

I did my valves last winter. It definitely is nice to work on these cars. And adds to peace of mind knowing that my vanos hub and cam gear bolts appeared to be intact!

Glad I could help out a fellow Z4 owner. We had perfect weather for it and everything went smoothly. I enjoy working on these engines and it really gives you satisfaction and peace of mind to do it yourself.
