Sticky retraction

Hey everyone, I have a question about my Z4 top not unlocking.
Actually it may be unlocking, but sticking. Has anyone else had
this happen? If I give it a tap, it pops loose and works fine. I was going
to lube it but wasn't sure if I should. Is there any lubricant I should use over another? Thanks for any advice. It isn't cool when I approach the car trying to remote-drop, and it just whines at me.

Really hope this isnt your top motor on it's way out...

As the motor starts to die it loses torque so may be "sticky" to close, or whine, etc...

I actually get this same problem, but it goes away if the car is out in the sun. Let us know if you fix it.

Any updates on this? I'm having the same issue. The driver's side latch sometimes sticks, and I'll have to bump the roof to get it to release. The pump is working strong once the latch is cleared. I cleaned the entire mating surface of the top and used gummipflege (sp?), but it didn't seem to do much for the sticking latch. Anybody have luck in fixing this?

Would like to add that this happens when the car is both hot or cold. I drive to work at 5am with the top down and it sticks just as often in the afternoon.

Its the elastic strap not providing enough pull to help the motor. Theres a post on here in the general forum on how to replace it.

Lube it!

It was recommended to me to try while lithium grease on the contact rollers and top latches. I used a qtip to apply it and now it releases and works perfect. Took 15 seconds to fix this irritating issue. Mine has worked every time since then even when it was below 0 in the garage.
