8" 108's on the rear end

I've got an 07 si vert. Thinking of buying a pair of 8" 108's to put on the rear vice the normal 8.5's. Anybody done this? All you purists keep the torch low, I'm just thinking here.

I'd probably run 225/40/18's all around. This would let me go after a wider variety of tires better suited to touring type driving vice the rfts with their sporty, younger, non back problem type driving.

Im guessing that would recess the tire/wheel about 0.5" compared to to the 8.5" wheels/tires. Seems like I could put in an offset spacer/longer bolts to make up the lost outer distance so they wouldnt look stupidly recessed in the wheel well.

Little help..... - I cant be the first to think of it?
