Coolant

Hey guys,

First time putting Coolant into the Z, wondering if it has to the be the BMW brand?

Anyone know of a 3rd party brand that could work?

Thanks in advance!

Amir

Always, always use BMW branded with distilled water.

^ agreed with the above statement. BMW coolant is a concentrate so you'll have to dilute it 50/50. Here in Newport Beach CA its about $26 per bottle. If you went to Walmart a 50/50 mix of Prestone is about $13...pricing-wise its almost the same price so go with the good BMW stuff hope this helps!

The BMW coolant is blue, FYI.. Since the OEM coolant is pretty reasonably priced, makes a lot of sense to just get the BMW stuff.

Pentosin makes BMW's coolant, you can buy Pentosin blue at most autoparts stores. Pentosin red is for Audi/VW, don't buy that. Look on Pentosin's website for the part number, its G something (maybe G13?)

I think its only a dollar or two cheaper but its a lot easier for me to get than going to BMW or putting in a web order just for one item.

If the radiator & engine block are empty, it takes 2 gallons to fill. So, 1 Gallon of BMW coolant and 1 gallon of distilled water should be good. Make sure you use distilled water to avoid introducing minerals into the cooling system.

Nothing special is needed, maybe an old (washed out) milk jug would be convenient because you just fill them half/half, then if you have any left over you'll have it in a convenient container already.
