255 vs 265 Width on a non M
It's nearly time to purchase tires for my EC7s coming in. I've had both rear sizes recommended; 255/35/18 and 265/35/18 with diameters of 25.028" and 25.303" relative to those sizes. On a non-M would there be a potential issue with rubbing on the slightly larger size or would it be wise to play it safe with the smaller size? APEX suggested it could rub and I trust their judgement, but wanted to see if anyone had experience with these. Also, it will be lowered with Eibach Pro Kit springs and Bilstein HD dampers.
Thanks! Last edited by ANUSTART; 03-13-2013 at 07:43 AM.. |

Assuming your rim width is 8.5-9.5", stick with 255. May as well play it safe. |

^ That is exactly right. Running 8.5 front and 9.5 rear. 235/40/18 on the front. 255 would be the safe bet. However, 265 would be nearly identical in tire diameter since a 235/40/18 is 25.402". To take it a step further, could go 225/40/18 on the front. Darn math.

Good to hear, I went with
225/35ZR-19 Front and 265/30ZR-19 on the Rear The rears are great, the fronts I think rub just a touch if I really push it, something like a speed bump near full lock. When I get the next set I'm going to see if I may have some more room for a step up on the rear. |

I have the opposite - 255/35/18 on M style 224 rims on my 3.0si - wouldn't dare to try 255/40 on this rim as it's really close to rub the outer fenders.
Will be fitting my kw v2's sometime next week - probably will be hard to set it without rubbing. |

McKoval, could it be the offset of the 224 rear rims possibly? I'm running the same size tires with the APEX EC-7s and it fits like a glove. However, I'm running stock suspension so there's plenty of room. But even dropping it an inch it should tuck nicely.

Running 265/35-18 on 18x9.5" OZ square on our race car. Not rubbing lowered on TC Kline C/Os.

I ran a 255/40/18 winter tires on my Z4 3.0 si Coupe (type 203 i think) wheels. BTW I am lowered on coilovers so that may affect the camber which may prevent some rubbing.
