Engine Check Light
Sorry guys it's been a minute, got a question. Just changed the engine cover and the gaskets because she was burning oil. The entire time she burned oil the engine light never came on. Not once, now that I made the change, suddenly after two weeks boom engine light came on. So I figured maybe I was down a quart or two, so stopped got some synthetic and oil light went off. Driving home today light came back on...absolutely no performance problem she running like a cat running from water. Any ideas what might be the problem she's a 2004 with only 73,000 miles on her. I'm going to plug in the OB-II tomorrow my buddy has one but I'm just wondering if you guys have an idea. As always thanks from Japan.

Low oil wouldn't normally cause the CEL (the low oil light would come on when you turn off the car). It could be something as simple as a loose gas cap or disconnected vacuum hose.

Spend a few bucks and get yourself a BMW specific scanner rather than those generic OBDII ones. Should help you figure out what is going on with the CEL

Torque and Bmwhat are both great apps. Depends on how much you want to spend but both have their qualities. I have both of them.

That price seems a little steep.
I carry a Peake Research in the trunk in case of SES lights on the road, and have the $40 Progman/DIS/etc ... for digging deeper in the garage.

I guess BMW does not want anyone encoding these cars.
That is a shame, I bought a cable off Amazon for $8 and loaded free software and can fully map and do anything on my Moto Guzzi. Marc
