windshield washer sprayer help
Hi Guys
I need some help with my windshield washer sprayers. When I pull for the sprayer the wipers properly operate but no fluid sprays out of the washer nozzles. I do not hear the pump operate. Here's the funny part. When I first start the car in the morning and when I have the headlights on the headlight washers spray, but only on the first try. On the 2nd try I get nothing. Only the headlight ones fire. Ive checked fuses 38, 21, 40 and they all look good. If the headlight washers go off then at least that pump works right? Any ideas? Thanks for looking. Al |

Probably the first thing I did to mine after purchasing. IIRC, the filter in the reservoir was no dirty with slimey crud the water wasn't getting through. I took the reservoir off, cleaned up the the tank and filter and it worked after that - here is the link used

The pumps are notoriously shitty. Mine died at about 40k miles. Replaced it with a cheap knockoff (like $7, how can you lose?) and it's been fine since. OE pump isn't too expensive either. My money is on pump failure.

pretty sure its the pump, think there are 2 pumps, one for headlights, one for windscreen. I replaced mine too as soon as I bought the car, ebay mate, cant go wrong for 7 bucks.
Headlights only go off every 3rd pull, I pulled the fuse on that puppy. (Possibly 2 pumps on my z3, but yeah have a good look) |

Yea, they're 2 separate pumps.
The seals fail between the impeller and the motor. There's a weep hole in the bottom of the motor that's supposed to let the fluid leak out if it gets past the impeller seal. That's how mine failed and peed all over the driveway. I would suggest unplugging the connector and seeing if it has power when you pull the stalk. The OEM pump is about $30, but the eBay one sounds like the way to go. And you might as well get a new grommet/filter while you're at it. They're just a few bucks.

I had my pump fail back in October. Easy to switch out, only took about 10min.
I replaced it with this pump on Amazon for less than $9. Its lasted over a month, hopefully I'll get a few more out of it http://www.amazon.com/URO-Parts-1J5-...51+Washer+Pump |
