Leak identification

On my '08 E86, I have evidence of blow-by coming from the seal around the electrical plug in the forward center are of the valve cover (cam position sensor?). None of the schematics are much help in identifying the component and wether or not the seal is replaceable. Not having much success uploading a picture either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to know what I'm getting into (and have the necessary parts on hand) before I pull the valve cover off.

TIA

Upload the picture to a photo sharing website and post the link here. It is IMPOSSIBLE to give any sort of assessment without, at the bare minimum, being able to see a picture.

How about a picture from about 3-5 feet back or so to put what we are seeing into perspective ....

I can post a better shot on Monday. I had to reduce the size of the picture (in pixels) to get it to upload and this is what happened.

Looks like the eccentric shaft sensor and yes the seal is replaceable. I just ordered all parts for the valve cover gasket replacement from Turner which includes this seal.

That begs the question - what is the procedure for removing the valve cover? Does anything need to be removed from it first (sensors, etc)?

TIA

If you're talking about the plug to the right of the ignition coil then yes... looks like the eccentric shaft sensor... anybody want to validate that for me? If that is leaker than I belive you need to pull the valve cover to replace it which means you might as well replace teh valeve cover gasket and the other gasket as well.. i forget the name... it comes as a kit from Turner, just make sur eyou get the right kit for your year. There are a ton of DIYs. I actually found the one's over on the e90 forum better, same engines just easier for us since we don't have teh cabin filter to move.

Thanks. I'll check there. There aren't any DIYs here that I can find.
