Is this a Z4 hard top?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321460143438...84.m1423.l2648

I emailed seller and he swears it is a Z4 hard top. But there is no spoiler on it above the rear window, and this top has a smooth profile with no lines. Every Z4 hard top I have ever seen has profile lines that meet up with the spoiler.
Also, the mount posts do not appear to be in the correct spot for a Z4.

Is this aftermarket?

I don't think the window profiles look correct either.

Maybe its for a Z3?

Its not aftermarket, not with the BMW glass.

Yeah . . . something definitely doesn't seem right here, but better pics would help. I have a black hardtop (currently in storage) and though there are similarities, I do not recall it looking exactly like that one.

A bit hard to tell from the listing pics, but 1) I do not see the protruding fastening posts on either side of the top, 2) there seems to be some sort of parcel shelf integrated into the top, and 3) my black hardtop does not have beige headlining and there was no color choice option when I ordered it - it is dark grey/black.

I think there are some pretty good pictures of legit Z4 hardtops in my old DIY thread from a few years ago - see http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=466272.

Might want to ask the seller for some better pics and whether or not he personally had it on a Z4, or whether he was just told that. Looks like he has alot of other junk . . . er, items . . . scattered about - possibly a junk dealer - and may just be confused.

That said, if it turns out to be legit, it looks like it may be had for a steal. I doubt there are any available new anymore ($2500+ in 2010, three month wait) and not that many used examples seem to come up for sale these days, especially examples that are in good shape.

You do know that you'd need to prep your car to accept a hardtop, right?

Good luck!

Mike

I was thinking Z3 also, but Z3 tops have distinct lines with trim pieces running from front to back, and this top has none. I also researched older BMW convertibles and could find none that this top seems to fit.

Z8 top maybe?

Yeah, I saw your excellent thread on the installation. I emailed the seller and he insists it is a Z4 top. It's close to my home also. If you look closely, there are protruding fastening posts, but they are set back from the edge that meets the window, and that would not line up with the installed hard top prep kit. Also, I too have never seen a beige interior on a Z4 hard top.

Flat top slant no bubble and big. It's for a Z8.

What about that parcel shelf thing? is that part of the cart, the top, or otherwise? Definitely worth a drive out though.

I think you are correct. I just saw some images of a Z8 hard top and there are no lines or profile, it is smooth like the one that is for sale. The rear window is recessed too, just like the one on ebay.
