Torquing the Oil Filter bolt.

Changing the oil for the first time this weekend I torqued the oil filter cover bolt to the spec'ed 24 ft/lbs. (33 N*m) but it really felt like I was over-tightening it and made a nice creaking noise before my torque wrench 'clicked'.

Is that normal?

what kind of torque wrench you have to torque that spec? I'm having trouble to find a wrench to torque that spec in the middle of the range.

I had the same experience and since then:
1) Bought a spare bolt, just in case
2) Dropped to torque down to 18-20 ft*lbs

I Never torque it.
All you need is enough pressure to slightly compress the O ring.

It's suppose to be 25Nm/18ft*lbs.

That's the drain plug.

I'm using this Craftsman 5-80lbs wrench. http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-8-i...p-00913918000P

Torque spec for the "Full Flow Oil Filter (cover) per TIS 11 42 2AZ is 33N*m which converts to 24 ft./Lbs.

Does seem a little much but the filter kit supplied crush washer takes up some of the torque.
