Who else uses the roadster or coupe as a weekend car?
I use the Z4 as a weekend car and for longer distances. For daily driving, I use an all electric car which is tons of fun to drive in its own way. Does anyone else use the Z3 or Z4 as a weekend car?
I got a new daily driver in August 2012: Last edited by eHelmholtz; 08-31-2012 at 07:43 PM.. |

My Zoupe is a weekend car only. I'd find it too impractical as a DD. Plus stick-shift would annoying in traffic as a commuter car.

Weekend, nights and long distance for my Z. I would DD it but last time I got 7 dings in our company parking garage. My DD is either a lifted Jeep but more often a dropped E28 535i w/headers and magnaflow exhuast, no cats, glasspack resonator. Makes it that much more fun to set off the car alarms in the garage (take that ya bastards!).

I've just had it two weeks, this coming Thursday". So far, all I've been using it for is a weekend and evening pleasure car. For when I actually want to go out and just enjoy the drive. My daily driver is a Subaru WRX. I plan on driving the wheels off of that car just to see how far it will go. And it loves the weather that I don't want to drive the Z4 in.

No Roadster here, but DD is a VW Diesel, and the ///M is pretty much a weekend car with an occasional workday thrown in here and there.

Really, it's a slippery slope! But it sure is fun! You may know about these already--can't tell as you're newish here, but the best bang for the buck mods are, IMO: CDV delete, transmission mounts, and Turner Camber Kit (works for the "M" model only, and great if you take your car to the track or Autox) and alignment. With labor (cheaper if you DIY), these come to about ~250-~300 dollars (YMMD). Aside from that, ditching the runflat tires if you have them (non-M models) makes huge difference as well. Not necessarily cheap, but putting a set of PSS on a car with runflats will = new car for the most part. (See PSS thread.) |

I mainly use my car on my days off and when the weather is good. I'll drive it to work occasionally as the drive to work is about 30 miles and I can either have fun on long and winding country roads or jump on the thruway. There's nothing like a driving with the top down coming home from work.

You can count me firmly in the weekend/fun/long distance driving only camp - and can add only when its sunny and clear with no trace of salt/bad weather to be found to the list of requirements. In Chicago, that means I only really drive it on the weekend from late Spring to late Fall with one long road trip per year thrown in (this year it's two).
I live downtown and work a couple neighborhoods over and commute is walk or cab, so I have no 'daily driver' as I don't drive daily. Wife works in our neighborhood and walks the four blocks, has no car and doesn't drive. |

I live midtown and work midtown so my commute is either transit or walk. This means my Z is reserved for weekend and evening drives.
I do find the scarcity of driving it breeds appreciation, but at the same time on the very rare occassion that I see a Z on my commute, I wish I were driving mine. |

I am a weekend/evening-only Z driver as well. I have an E90 for the DD, which includes dropping the kids off, on the way! I too steer clear of bad weather in the Z and the car is typically shelved from November thru March.

The only time I ever got somewhat uncomfortable in my car was a 5 hour road trip where I only got out once to refuel. Daily driving would be no issue to me, though as it is, I only drive the coupe on weekends and occasional trips to work |
