38k on odo - going in for service (out of warranty)
I have had my M for about 4 months now and am going to go to my mechanic for an oil change and basic look over. Have not had the car in since I bought it.
What do you guys think is a fair price for this kind of service? This is my 1st M car. Thanks. |

If it's just a basic lookover, no more than $150. With the oil change, add another $150.
Changing the oil is really easy though. You can buy the oil change kit on the tischer bmw website for about $100 shipped. Most expensive oil change I've had on any car I've owned to date! But it's totally worth it!! How many miles left on the odometer for Inspection 2? |

i'd think an hour to an hour and a half's labor at the very most, so whatever the going rate is for that (average of $90 to $100 per hour these days). the oil (u'll need exactly 5.5l of castrol tws 10w60) and filter should cost no more than $90 if u buy from tischer (u can go to ur local dealership and ask if they will price match).
worth mentioning that the oil itself is rated for 15,000 miles by bmw in the service manual, but a lot of folks change at shorter intervals (i halve it and go with 7,500 miles between oil changes). this actually works out to be pretty decently priced considering most typical vehicles recommend oil changes every 3,000 miles. |
