Interior Part Needed: Oddments Box Trim

Hi folks. Was cleaning the interior of my car on what was a beautiful sunny day here in the Northeast (finally) and noticed two symmetrical cracks on each side of my fold down storage. The piece is called the "oddments box trim". Does anyone know of people with a track car that might have some interior bits still in their possession? I've searched the classifieds and found one track car for sale and reached out to the owner. My interior is black.

Be careful with your "expediture to crack free life ratio" my friend. Mine has those exact same cracks, and from what I've gathered from other roadster owners, this seems to be inherent in the part. I don't know if it's the location and flexing of the panels, but this is so common you may pay a rather large sum of money to replace this, only to have it crack again fairly soon down the road. I'd love to hear from other owners here on their experience with these cracks.

Interesting to hear. Can folks chime in with what other plastic interior parts they have had crack on them?

I have the exact same cracks on my 2006 Z4M. They give the car character!!

It's funny, now that the car is nearly 12 years old, I like all the little scratches, paint chips, etc. here and there. Stuff like that used to drive me insane, but owning an older car now I think it gives it a bit of character. ;D

All the paint scrubbed off from the fangs doesn't bother me one bit either!

Thanks for the sanity check John. I'll replace it myself once, with maybe reinforcing that area from behind (only to make it crack somewhere else I'm sure). My car is no sunny day toy, so I'm beyond trying to keep it pristine (my front bumper really could use some love).

Best of luck. As you can see from the other owners who chimed in, I didn't want you to spend $1200 on that part only to have it crack just like the original. That's why I did the passenger airbag occupancy sensor coding to "not active". I hate replacing an expensive part that's prone to repeated failure/breaking. It's like that definition of insanity ........ doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results :-)

I can not believe that part is 1200!!! It is just a piece of plastic. I can't imagine what the extended leather version costs(or is that the extended leather version?). I assume it was much cheaper when the Z4 was still in production. I would suggest you take it off and wrap it with black vinyl. That would cover the cracks and be flexible so it shouldn't ever show again.

According to ECS Tuning it's $1227.70, that's their price. They say list price is $1420.00. That's crazy, but that is the full leather price. Real OEM says the non full leather should be $280.00, but ECS for that part number is showing $1293.53

The plastic piece (non-full leather) ranges on ECSTuning from $288 to $425 depending on model year. Not sure why, could only guess. One would assume that the full leather is actually covered fully and the cracked plastic is never visible.

Yea, I would be careful ordering that part to make sure I didn't overpay. The real OEM listing has quite a few part numbers listed, and in many cases only shows E86 and not E85 in the details..... kinda strange.

Mine just cracked today.... My girlfriend was like "Hey maybe your exhaust drone made this crack" and I noticed it.

Mine's cracked as well on the driver's side on my roadster. Good to know that this is common. I was going to replace it but now having second thoughts if it's a common "weakness".

Full leather piece of that would be pretty crazy. Or even covered in synthetic alcantera.

I did notice that the OP has a wind blocker mounted to his car. Could that be causing some added stress to that part? Everyone else with those cracks, do you also have a wind blocker with a bracket there?

Highly doubtful (not being defensive). The windblocker puts very little pressure downward and the sideways pressure is on the hoops, not the trim piece.

While responding to AriuSen just now (I missed his post saying he had one available), I did a little more research and discovered that the parts for the roadster and the coupe are different (part# 51469111649 for the roadster and part# 51463421460, for black plastic).

So, thanks to the Coupe owners that replied....but I need one from a roadster. And I'm going to guess that will be hard to find (who turns a roadster into a track car and strips the interior?)

It's a valid question, but I purchased my car in 2011 when it came off of a lease. It had just over 13,000 miles on it, no wind blocker, and the cracks were there. I added the wind blocker after I purchased the car and it did not cause any further cracking.
