Yeah, since BMW is discontinuing the assist program for older cars using the older communication technology like ours, there isn't any reason to keep the old switches in place, so I went ahead and did this mod. Nice little pocket for a phone, wallet, etc.

I put mine in, but it doesnt seem to fit right. I think the bottom of the tray is hitting the airbag module under there... could mine be in backwards? Its even lifting up the trim.

No way you can install it backwards. Make sure the wire bundle and connector are shoved out of the way, it looks like they are pressing upwards.

I would actually like to use the wiring for powering an iPhone charger. Does anyone know which wires do what?

Thanks for reviving this old thread, I just ordered one from FCP Euro. Absolutely no point in keeping the switches since not only did BMW discontinue the service, but I'm pretty sure it used an analog Verizon connection and that network no longer exists.

As for the earlier problem with losing Bluetooth communication - did anyone else have any problem with this?

Installed. No loss of Bluetooth. Oddly mine was already disconnected when I popped the switch panel. Great to have a bit more storage space when there's so little to begin with.
