Trunk Remote Opening Slow or No
I did a search and couldn't find anything on this. My '07 3.0i trunk takes a long time to open or sometimes not at all. I hold the key button and wait for several seconds and then I hear the release selanoid (or what ever is making the noise) make a whirr sound and it opens. Sometimes I have to push the button several times, sometimes I get nothing and have to use the key. Same with either key fob.
Any ideas? Thanks, |

Is it slow while you are pressing the button while you are walking to the car? Or is it also slow to unlock when you are standing right next to the trunk? The original remote is now 9 years old so many people are reporting problems with reduced range of the FOB. One of my remotes works well from 15-20 feet, but the other ones doesn't work at all unless I'm standing right next to the car.

I can be standing right next to it and it won't open, or takes a long time. I don't think its the remote because the doors lock and unlock with no problem.

Does it open immediately with the hardwired trunk/boot button mounted inside the car?
On mine (2006 Z4MR), range is very short. I have to be basically standing within a few feet of the trunk, and it requires a long press of the button (~1.5 secs) and release. A short tap of the button never works. Salty

Before you try and open a remote to change the battery, better do a search.
I don't think it's as simple as it seems. Edit: As simple as it should be.

Found a DIY for replacing the battery, but the pics are gone, so you'll have to use your imagination.

Replacing Battery
Here is another DIY on replacing the battery in a BMW key. Should be similar if not exactly the same:

I've always been under the impression that the remote press delay to open the trunk is by design (to avoid accidental opening while remote is in your pocket.
In support of this, I've recently seen on a Carly (options coding tool) web page in the Tailgate/Rear lid section that you can change the config options between single press, double press, press with delay and if configured for delay you can change the delay time. http://support.mycarly.com/knowledge...t-is-possible/ |

You've probably seen this recent thread by mousitch.
I would consider that before trying to fix a key myself. I'm usually pretty handy, but I keep picturing cutting a thumb off trying to get the housing open.

Just a follow up, as it's been several months.
Not sure what happened, but for the last month or so it opens up almost every time with either key. Maybe the previous owner hardly ever used the trunk? Z4 heal thyself... I had also noticed that both of the sun visor sliding mirror covers felt like they were glued shut. It took a lot of force to get them to finally slide open, and then, with a bit of WD40, they are now working fine. |

Stuck sun visor sliding mirror covers is a common complaint.
And WD40 is the common solution.

Thanks
Because of age and lack of use? I would find it hard to believe they came that way from the factory. I was just speculating that maybe the trunk had very little use and the solenoid or whatever, got sticky with age. Anyway, it seems to be fine now. |

OK, a update is due. For the last several months the trunk has not been, or is rarely a problem anymore. I hold the trunk button on the key for about a second and it opens almost every time now. Like the sun visor mirror problem I mentioned earlier, maybe the previous owner just didn't open it very much and it was sticky? Anyway, it seems to be fine now.
Thanks everyone for your input |
