SCCA T2 E92 M3 Build

We figured we better post our race car build where the track guys hang out
Its coming close to race season and our E92 M3 is getting read for some wheel to wheel action with our first race in May! We just finished up the roll cage and currently working on fitting the dashboard and making the beauty panels.

When we first started this build it was in November and we have been slowly getting ready (Customers always first!) What is unusually about this build is we will be removing most of our modifications (from when it was a street car) and only keeping the JRZ triple adjustable struts/shocks. Due to the SCCA T2 rules the E92 M3 is not allowed modifications yet, or even upgraded springs and brakes (we can upgrade to stainless lines and upgraded fluid and pads) . We are allowed to upgrade the struts/shocks and so is any other car in class, as long as they keep the stock location/mounting points and stock springs.

For our class some of the E92 M3 restrictions are we must weigh at least 3700lbs with driver after the race is over. 18x10 max wheel size for front and rear. Max tire size of 295/35/18

A few goodies have been coming in such as our fire extinguisher system which is pretty cool because it is a push button style release instead of pull.

What it used to look like as a track day car.

3700lbs max with driver is pretty high. What other cars will compete with this?

Yea and that is the least we can weigh.... So we will be going out on track at about 3,800lbs.

We used to race our E46 M3 in this class but other cars are Z4M, Evo, 5.0 Mustang,Carrera, STI, 350z, 370z, Solstice, Camaro, and there are other cars too but that is the majority that race right now.

Each car has its own modifications and weight limitations. Like the Z4M min weight is 3375 but it can run turner motosports springs, CSL headers, ground control sway bars (at a 100lb penalty).

The E46 M3 has a min weight of 3500lb and can have csl headers, turner springs, turner sway bars.

All cars are open to do their own exhaust, dampers as long as they use the stock springs or style springs, stainless steel brake lines, upgraded fluid, upgraded pads, upgraded tune and upgraded air filter

How we get to the weight we need is by adding 25lb lead bricks till we get to where we need.

Is this the car I would have rode in with Kris at Road America last October?

It is the car, we decided to turn it into a full race car for this season and go a different direction with our E46 M3 (to more of NASA GTS class)

We should be able to get them for you. Just sent an email to double check. We are a Motion Control Dealer now and will be using their set ups from now on (they have a 3-way set up for the E85). However we can still get you JRZ's.

If you are interested they do make this damper set up for the E85. In both the normal or or 12 31 set up. The one we have is the 12 31 set up.

Just FYI motion control is the company the ex-owners of moton started after selling off the company.

http://www.motioncontrolsuspension.com/products.html

Looks like for us we need to go either 2-way custom or 3-way adjustable.

I would love to replace my KW V3s with this setup, maybe with some swift springs. Not in the budget for now but maybe a future upgrade.

That is the weight without the cage though. I'm sure if it were an all out build with no limitations we could get the weight pretty low. Trimming down the wiring harness, cutting out unnecessary brackets, gutting doors, light weight parts, etc.

Yep Lex used to be with Moton USA but now has opened up Motion Control. We have a set of their 2-ways on order for an E46 M3. If you have any questions about them feel free to ask.

That was a pretty awesome ride at Road America in that car.

Some of what sticks with me most though how much gas and brakes it would go through in a single session on the track.

Thanks glad people like to look at these threads. We like to show the work we do around the shop.

Yep Kris is good at pushing the car to its limits and being hard on consumables.

We have been working hard to get a group of cars done for this weeks Nasa event, so we have not had as much time to work on our car. One of the things you will notice is our color choices for the E92 cage and panels. We always try to stay true to the BMW brand, so our color choice for the cage is interlagos blue. Our trunk block off and beauty panels are painted frozen black. Our goal is to have this car completed by this Thursday to start our testing. We will try hard to keep this thread updated. Thank you for your patience.

The car is coming along great and very close to being done. Here are some pictures when we took it to Autobahn Country Club last week. The vinyls will be going on the week of May 7th!
