What wheel set-up?
I have an 06 3.0i Roadster that i want some new shoes for. My current (OEM) set-up is 225/45/17 on the front and 255/40/17 on the rear. I like the fact that there is not much gap at the top of the tires to the fender.
I am considering some 18" or 19" CSL type wheels from Velocity and need some recommendations on wheel and tire size. I would like the rears a little wider if possible. I would also like the wheels to stick out maybe 1/2 inch more. Any suggestions? Anyone have a picture of hyperblack CSL wheels on a Ti Silver Z? Here is what my current set-up looks like. Do you have the sports package? If you go to a 18" or 19" wheel your wheel gap will get bigger (space between top of tire and fender) You will end up with the lifted Z4 look until you live with it or decide on some suspension work. The Z4 has nearly the same offsets as the E46 coupe so the staggered 18" / 19" in Non-M fitment will be perfect. 18x8.5 ET40 and 18x9.5 ET45

agreed unless you have the sport pkg, dont go bigger or you'll have the 4x4 look. i'm upgrading shoes too but sticking with 18s (car came with 18s), plus anything biggger just isn't practical... cost of tires, ride quality, mileage, etc.

I dont know the exact explanation behind it but I think it's because when you increase the size of the wheel, the distance from the center to the edge of the tire gets larger. Thus your car will sit higher off the ground then it did before, creating a larger gap. Also with bigger wheels you'd run lower profile tires therefore filling in less of the gap. If you want to go to 18" you're going to need to lower your car, simple as that. Or live with the gap.

Would a set-up like this add to my wheel gap? I do not want to lower the car but want to add some new wheels.

I did not know either. Optical or not though, go plus size and a drop works well
