245/35-18 on a 8x18 wheel?

What do you guys think - anyone else running a 245/35-18 on a 8" wheel? I do NOT want to change wheels, but I need to try new tires to try and get rid of a looseness my car has developed and I have never liked how stretched the 225/40 looked on the 8" rim compared to how nice the 255/35 looked on the 8.5" in the back.

Rear:

Tire tread looks nice and even with the wheel like I like - now compared to the front:

They look stretched to me and I don't care for it - never have. So it is easy to say just to go to a 235/40 - but then it gets even taller and I worry about it rubbing on my lowered car. So go with a 235/35 you say??? - yes but then it is way shorter! A 245/35 would match up nicely with the back and be just a shade shorter in the front so I should not rub. I have spacers front and back (15/20) so I have plenty of room for them - I just want to know how a 245/35 will look mounted on a 8" tire - will it be ballony looking or does someone running them now I could see? Google is not helping me much.

They seem to be the best match for the front if they will not look like crap???

You can see I have plenty of room for them - just want ideas on what they will look like. Again - don't want new wheel - just want a fatter tire that won't rub and matches decent with the rears.

Open to opinions and/or flames - I welcome it all....... =)

Just for the record - I moved from 225/40-18 on a 8" wheel on the front to a 245/35-18 and they look PERFECT. Love it.

I've run 255/35 x 18 on the front on the stock 8" wheel with no issues.

245 is the recommended size for an 8in wheel

Everything I read said that is the MAX width with a 8", so I was concerned that it would be the absolutely max and look ballonish. After doing the max and looking, I thought they would be ok, but hoped someone had a picture for reference to make sure.

Wanted to go 235 to be safe, but the math worked better with the 245. Glad it did - they look exactly like what I wanted.

I just pulled the trigger on 245/35-18 Michelin PS3's for my 18x8 front wheels based on your post. Did you get PS3's too or did you stick with a summer tire? I'll let you know how it looks!

I went with the Pilot Sport A/S 3+. So far I like them even if they did not 100% fix my "wondering" car. They look great and ride nice and quiet.

Michelins are firm but hard like Bridgestone tires and still have a superior ride quality.

I think what you are talking about is tram lining. These cars do it from the factory and putting on bigger tire sizes only makes it worse. I find the michelins tram line some of the worst.

I am running 245/40 and 275/35 on my E46 M3.

Funniest thing same size but 19" 245/35 and 275/30 tram lines significantly less on hankook v12s.

It's the limit of an 8" imo. If you're considering an extreme summer tire I would go 235. If the tire is not as aggressive or more all of an all season 245 is fine.

It's somewhat dependent on the tire and how stiff its sidewalls are. I've had 255/35 x 18 Hankook RS3 on the 8 inch rims in the front and they were fine. 255/35 x 18 Bridgestone RE71 on the same wheel didn't work as well. The RE71s have very stiff sidewalls, and the extra width combined with the slight pinch fit caused a very rounded shoulder on the tire which reduced contact patch. There were no other fit issues. No rubbing or anything like that. Changing to 245/40 x 18 actually gave more contact patch than the 255/35 RE71s.
I'm currently running 245/40 x 18 Hankook RS4s with no issues. Thinking about trying 255/35 when these wear out to see how they handle the pinch fit.

This car had run flats on it when I got it and it tramlined bad - I went to a new set of Conti's, changed out the FCAB's to poly along with the sway bushings and added new H&R drop springs and new shocks and this thing was rock solid.

Now 2 years later it has returned with no changes that could account for it. New set of tires, same thing. New RTAB's, same thing. New poly rear sway bushings, same thing.

Just can't track it down, but I want my rock solid car back. I am about to put in new control arms just to try something. Can't figure out what happened.

And for those asking about a 245 on a 8" wheel - the pictures above are exactly that. 8" stock 18" wheel with a 245 on it - fits perfect and looks great IMO.
