Disa Question
Is it common for the disa to fail and ultimately destroy your engine, my 3.0i has 66,000 recorded miles and I am concerned it could fail with devastating consequences.

Definitely not common, but possible. If you hear any type of noises in that area, replace/rebuild it

There is a thread in the E90 Non turbo engine forum dedicated to this. There are several pages and lots of info about it. The consensus seems to be that since it's plastic it doesn't damage the engine when it comes apart.
